Not to sound rude, but you, sir, are an idiot. 8 million people = a grossly successful game. I dont think any other game has that much of a fan base. This is different from any other game in existence how? its not like if you become the top ranked 'guild' (or whatever they're called) in WAR, the company who made it is going to go to your house, congratulate you and wash your dog and/or car. The game STILL involves battlegrounds, a hell of a lot too. There still are guild rivalries across factions. 40 man raids were simply replaced by 25 mans, because it is simply possible for casual guilds to be able to get a raid going. I'll pass. I'm sorry, but this made me laugh out loud. Oh yes, 8 million people have just been playing WoW so they can wait for WAR to come out, when WoW has been out long before WAR hasn't even been announced when TBC was released. Oh yes, we're waiting for WAR.... [/sarcasm]. Oh the irony... We are the ones who are ignorant? So what you're saying is that we are ignorant, because we play a game that we enjoy because in your opinion there is another 'better' game out there? And you are saying that we are ignorant... whereas you are completely ignorant to the fact that you not only sound like a complete idiot here, but also a jackass? Now I know, all I am doing by replying is feeding the trolls, but I couldn't just read this thread and not reply.
So you have nothing to add to the discussion, but want to insult both sides and think your adding something ?
The major achievement in WoW for me is not so much the 8 million subscribers, but the number of those that had never played an MMO before. The MMO populace is now HUGE because of WoW. That is it's main success from the gaming community point of view, and the obvious financial success it's given blizzard. From an established MMO player's point of view, it could be perceived as a bit stale, and less of a success for that individual. It has it's place, which is not a place many people can stomach anymore, but for a considerably large number of people it's still somewhere they can enjoy. You will however, never see me playing WoW or any of it's expansions. Anyway, I thought it was announced ages and ages ago to be an October-November release?
I'd like to know how a game that makes at least $100 million a month is not successful. Thats the average budget of a major blockbuster movie, and blizzard's game design is rather ingenious from the point of sales. This WOTLK patch comming out ups the level cap to 80 and pretty much makes all the lvl 70 loot obsolete, forcing you to buy the patch to continue to enjoy endgame content (BTW, get your kara runs now before it goes the way of naxx and those lvl 60 raids).
you guys are all silly billys. that is why there are other games out there....not one game is perfect for all players. some love WoW, some love WAR, some love f@cking solitaire. We all win by being in a community of gamers that loves playing any game that drops in our laps. posts that are just vr pissing matches are a waste of time. discuss a games fault(s), discuss its benefit(s) then use the community to help the developers build a better furture game.
i pre ordered it a couple of days ago, but they had to transfer my order to wal-mart because game stop is not open past 12 , looks like i'm fighting my way threw angry marines and WoW'rs to the registers!
You know what sucks? Although I have quit wow for like the 20th time.. I currently have an itch to play and am thinking of preordering WotLK.... I hate you blizzard.. I hate you so much -_-
I am not saying they are wrong, I was merely expressing a personal opinion. I don't begrudge WoW's success. I do, however take issue that the game was dumbed down to the point of frustration in order to make it appeal to the masses. I started with MMO's in 1999 with Asheron's Call. In order to learn magic, a player had to utilize a series of 5 different components mixed in various ways to learn the spell. It was time consuming and a whole lot of fun in my opinion. WoW has no in-depth storyline or lore and the quest system is boring at best. I am just saying that given the talents and money that Blizzard has, they could have made a much better game. Yes, this is my opinion. I played it for 9 months quit, came back for 3, quit and now I think I am gone for good. If it appeals to you, more power to you.
God I remember doing that.. so evil.. and I would fizzle my spells so much, running out of damn scarabs!!! It was nice when they introduced the peas though I liked having a mage.. but guh I liked my gimped UA sho more AC was my 1st MMO too... then a friend from there sucked me into evercrack.. I've been damned since. But back to WoW... ya I hate blizzard, I'm pretty sure I've given them more money then I have any other company.. think maybe NC soft is 2nd lol
