In taxes, if you want more government support, you have to pay for it. I don't see that cutting taxes and spending as low as possible is the right approach: the free market is not the solution to everything, because you can't rely on people to make the best decision. If you could, loan sharks and scams wouldn't exist, and the advertising industry would be much, much smaller.

What the government should pay for depends on what the people want it to pay for. Of the most affluent nations in the world, there are quite a lot that pay higher taxes than the US, and there are a handful that pay less or none.

Reagan was the reason for the stock market crash in 87. Ballooning the economy with fake money while cutting taxes only helps the short term. Very short term. Long term things get screwed. Same thing happened when the war started. We kept pumping out fake money to fund a war while at the same time cutting taxes on the people who were profiting from it. The idea behind Reaganomics is solid but in practice its fucking terrible. Money does not trickle down.

Now we are printing even more money instead of increasing taxes. There's only two ways to get out of debt. One is raise the debt limit.... the other is taxes. Of course at the same time you need to seriously(not politically) look at what needs to be trimmed so that you don't have to keep the taxes.

Ummm isn't this the whole ... teach a man to fish scenario?

Yeah people spend money on advertising, buy crappy products, fall into scams? But you are the one at the check out line? dont spend the money?

Why does there need to be a big brother, at other peoples expense $$ to tell you ..... no ... restraint .... stop ...save your money ... etc ?

    Just a thought

    Because people are stupid.

Sad, but that's just the way it's worked out.

    well said.

it should also be noted that the easiest thing to cut expenditures on is the war/military budget in general but when it comes to pulling the plug, no president wants to be the one to end a war. It makes it look like it failed on their shift and as usual political decisions are based around what makes you look good or benefits you/your party later. Pulling out on a war like this is almost impossible which is why troop reductions are being dragged out for so long.

Anyway, I'd rather see cuts here as opposed to education and health care, the typical areas that get the most neglect.

I know it makes a lot of people go "wtf?" to hear and most hate my idea on the matter, but I wish we would just sneak a bunch of nukes over to the middle east and set them all off at once. Blow up the whole area. No more problems in the world being started by religious fanatics. The world would implode from the oil supply being destroyed. All economies of the world would grind to a halt. It would reset everyone back to zero. We would all rebuilt our infrastructure from the ground up, no more false boosts to economies. Everything would be at is true value. But doing this would create a mad rush to finally get clean technologies out and cars would move to a new replenish able fuel source. People wouldn't have militaries for anything but defense during this time because no one would afford to use the last of their oil on an invasion of some place. The world would be a shit place to live for 5 years or so, but after that the quality of life on a worldwide scale would see a massive boost and things would be great.

Now people are going to be all like "oh thats so mean, why would you vouch for killing so many innocent people?". But really, people over there have been causing huge problems in the world for centuries now, they have had more than enough chances to fix their shit.

    *rant over*

The west has just as many religious fanatics as the middle east. An extremely larger portion of "christians" are more dangerous than 99% of islam. Well funded ones that are trying to change a non religious country into a religious one filled with ignorant fucks. Just because we are in the country of origin of our religious intolerance to other countries doesn't mean we are any less dangerous. We just do it with the backing of well funded terrorists and a country that has lost questioning the good questions and sticks to bickering on bullshit between two parties who have no fucking clue. Most of senate and the house are completely bliss to the world and follow what their party leaders tell them to.

People in the US cause problems in everyone's country people in the middle east stick to their own country most of the time.

locking thread as it seems the already questionable title has devolved into a "lets nuke the middle east" and "republicans/democrats are stupid" motif.

discussion of politics and religion are still not allowed. I only let this stay as long as it did because people were not being too offensive. While many of you have good points, I think politics and religion get people fired up quite a bit and remember we have people from all around the world, including the middle east and people from both parties.
