This is a must-have game for me... and I prefer to be playing a Jedi character over a Sith lord. Any ETA? I hope they also include the traditional Jedi robes. I hate spandex.
The only problem I have with that is won't the other classes just get stomped by the Force users? Unless they scale them down from all the other sources where they can take on platoons.
They'll probably all be force users. Like KOTOR. I will definitely be playing this game...KOTOR is my favorite game of all time!
<thread> 100 times better than shit can still be shit. While their games haven't been bad, they are all incredibly similar. Both from an engine point of view and gameplay wise. The story never really branches out. You get slightly different dialogue, maybe a different character dies but that character always has a counterpart who would say the same line in their place. You always come to the same ending where all your choices never really mattered that much because you can choose good or evil at the end anyways. Really...if you played as evil the ENTIRE game why would you suddenly choose good? You wouldn't, you'd create a new character after and play as good. Then you get to see the exact thing over again. Real consequences aren't real if you can change your mind later. Also, not being able to jump shows laziness imo. Even if the jumping is not at all useful in the game, it's one of those extras I expect to see. If they have time to add a lot of extra stuff then chances are that they had time to finish everything else properly. I can see the logic in not needing the jumping component in their sp-rpgs, but for an mmo I see it as essential. How much fun would it be to force jump all over the place? It could even be strategic.
On one hand, a good Star Wars MMO would be awesome, but in realty it is impossible to fairly set Star Wars in a MMO setting. Especially when you have revolving death like MMOs have to. They tried clones in SWG and it sucked, but honestly in the SWU and SWEU there is no way back from death, unless your a Jedi and can become the blue glowie. Having no true death at all, there is no point to being a Jedi or a Sith. Having other classes except Jedi where Jedi are free and clear to be created, will have an imbalance issue. When you can mind control, jump great distances, deflect laser fire, pull weapons out of hands and shoot lightning, how is a non-jedi going to match that. There is only 2 ways I can see to pull that off. Limit the number of Jedi availalble per server, which once again defeats the point of an MMO, but even in this timeframe, Jedi are supposed to be a smaller percentage of the population than everyone else. The second thing would be balancing the Jedi vs all other classes, which take sit away from the whole Jedi are cool and now are just a caster class specialty. Star Wars is just much cooler in concept than in reality. Ep1-3 sucked ass, KOTOR2 was a rehash of KOTOR with very little inovation and Force Unleashed was just Okay. I have faith in the developer, and want to be super-syched, but reality steps in and says this cannot be as cool and jeji will boil down to a mage/priest in a space MMO game.
They have hinted on there being other classes. And anyone who thinks that a Force User would wipe the floor with someone who isnt a force user hasnt played kotor well enough. Of course chances are that the gameplay for the mmo will not be EXACTLY the same as the previous games, the same principal will probably still apply in the fact that each class has its stregnth and I can safely say that ANY non-force class ( with the exception of some drones and the poor moisture farmer class....poor guys) equiped right ( shield, force resist/immunity gear, high attack stat ) could easily beat a force user. Though true its safe to say most players will be choosing a force user, I know I will thats for sure, there will be some who choose to play the BH or the Smuggler for whatever advantages they have. And all in all it would be those classes that I would be most worried of fighting against. I also think that the Non-force class have one other major advantage, the fact that they wont be tied down to either side, i.e light or dark. A player could go work for the Jedi for a bit then go on the sith side. It would make sense imo.
If they can pull this off, it'll be awesome. LotRO was dissapointing and this is the next best thing.
Apparently they said there might be a race that is force resistant assasins that go after jedi. Killing people who think they are better then you because they can use powers will be great.
I remember hearing in SWG, when it was really hard to gain Force use and those characters had perma death on. That there were organizations of players who hunted down the Force user pretty much because of that.
Not true, from IGN "Though we can only guess at some of the general types of companions that characters will have access to, the team at BioWare offered us a look at one specific type. The Dashade are the last survivors of a world that was destroyed a thousand years ago. Taking advantage of their natural Force resistance, the last remaining Dashade have been employed to assassinate Jedi throughout the galaxy. Fans of Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords will remember the Dashade being mentioned there, but they were also apparently in a scene that was cut out of the original cantina sequence from the original Star Wars. " The Dashade were tall, reptilian humanoids notable for their resistance to the powers of the Force. Though they were rendered nearly extinct during the Great Sith War, remnant populations were seen regularly for millennia, using their natural abilities to their advantage as elite assassins, mercenaries, or similar professions. Contents [hide] * 1 Biology and appearance * 2 Society and culture o 2.1 Common Dashade names * 3 History * 4 Behind the scenes * 5 Appearances * 6 Sources * 7 Notes and references [edit] Biology and appearance Dashade were tall reptilians with dark skin, lamprey-like mouths, and powerful claws. In addition to their natural Force-resistance, they were resistant to radiation. They also had an ability to dissipate heat which made them hard to detect using standard life-form sensors.[1] [edit] Society and culture Thanks to their partial Force-immunity, Dashade warriors easily found employment as combat instructors for the Jedi and assassins for the Sith,[1] though the Dashade's aggressive, might-makes-right culture caused most of them to favor the Sith.[source?] [edit] Common Dashade names * Alaris Koth[2] * Nos Kellex[2] * Tel Sorath[2] * Tessun Kel[2] [edit] History The Dashade homeworld, Urkupp, was destroyed when the Cron Drift supernova exploded during the Great Sith War, killing most of the Dashade. Thirty-six Dashade Shadow Killers, retainers of a Falleen royal house, were among the off-world survivors. In order to preserve these elite warriors, they were placed in cryogenic suspension, to be revived one at a time when needed for special assignments. By the time of the Galactic Civil War, only one known Dashade remained—Ket Maliss. Prince Xizor, a descendant of the royals who had passed the Dashade down over the generations, inherited this warrior and made him an assassin for Black Sun.[1] A Dashade. A Dashade. In addition to these preserved warriors, rumors of Dashade sightings continued sporadially over the millennia. For example, there was evidence that Dashade mercenaries participated in the Great Jedi Purge. Some have even theorized that Dashade colonies founded before Urkupp's destruction may have existed.[1] New Republic Security also became concerned that lost colonies of Dashade may have started working for the Imperial Remnant and in the criminal underworld. To assay their fears, they dispatched a number of adventurers to scout uninhabited star systems close to novas, supernovas, highly charged gas clouds, and even tide-locked worlds from binary star systems. They supplied ships and a mobile HoloNet transceiver to aid them. It is unclear what discoveries were made from these endeavors.[3] [edit] Behind the scenes The Dashade mask was the prototype for the Falleen species, Xizor in particular. George Lucas instructed all those working on Shadows of the Empire to study the Dashade face.[source?] Ket Maliss may or may not appear in the Cantina scene in A New Hope. Decipher, the creators of Star Wars Customizable Card Game claim they took the picture from the scene in A New Hope,[source?] while the Databank claims that he only appears in the Holiday Special's Cantina scene, and that a photo was digitally manipulated for his card to make him appear to be in A New Hope's scene. BTW I'm in no way a star wars nerd, I just brought up the force sensitive thing because I read the IGN thing this morning and I just googled it so. That's my defense.
Why ? The Ysalamir is already in the canon, and a character carrying one of them around would do a lot better against a force user.
I know there were six of us who were bothans on Eclipse that would go hunting jedi. I loved using bomb bots against them. Oh what is this little guy? BOOM! half con and 6 guys spamming leg shot lol
