I'm all for competition but wish it'd be buy from such and such company that you like to shop from and choose which special you'd want.. Not have to buy from shit company because it has the cooler pre-order thing.

Just started reading everything up on this and thinking about giving it a shot. Is there alot of PVP in each faction?

Coming from Warhammer, really hoping this has alot of pvp without alot of timesink-type pve objectives. Cant devote 4 hours straight to a pve event much without family agro :)

how is the team aspect of the game? do you see alot of people flying in fleets wrecking a star system or alot of solo fights?

    Q: Where can I pre-order?
A: Our pre-order partners can be found on our retail page.
Q: What about the EU/UK? What about the collector’s edition there?
A: Namco/Bandai is handling distribution in the United Kingdom and EU. They are working on various product plans currently. We will post information as we know it.
Q: How does the pre-order work? How do I get into Open Beta and the Head Start?
A: When you purchase the preorder, you’ll receive a Key that works for Open Beta and Head Start. Keys will either be e-mailed to you or given to you at the store. Each retailer is sending out keys at different times so check with them about timing.
Q: Will I receive my retailer exclusives during the Head Start?
A: No. The exclusives are tied to the retail product, not to the preorder key. In other words, you’ll need to purchase the full version of the game and input that key.
Q: Do the exclusive items stack? Can I get more than one thing?
A: Yes, different items stack. So if someone purchased multiple copies of the game from various retailers, he would receive all those items for EACH character created. Included playtime will still stack as well. However, the same bonus does not stack. So if someone purchases from Wal Mart twice, he cannot get two 500 point skill bonuses for the same character. (Each character will get one).
Q: If I purchase the game in order to get the retailer exclusive, can I give the code to someone else?
A: No. You only receive the retailer exclusive once you redeem the retail code. Once you’ve done that, the code cannot be used again.
Q: Will the exclusives be offered as a microtransaction?
A: Not at launch, but somewhere down the road we may offer to let people purchases these if they did not pre-order.
Q: When is the Head Start? When is Open Beta?
    A: Open Beta is 1/12/10 – 1/26/10. Head Start is 1/29/10-2/2/10.
Q: If I purchase the Digital Deluxe Item from Steam, D2D, etc. will I also receive their retailer exclusives?
    A: Yes.

Q: If I preorder the game, but don’t pick up the retail game, will I be stopped from playing past the Head Start?
A: Not right away. We will have a grace period of several days to give everyone the opportunity to pick up the retail copy of the game.
Q: How do I get my items?
A: After you’ve entered your retail keys(s) and create a character, you’ll enter your first map and immediately see a pop up screen. This will notify you of the item(s) available for you in our C-Store, online microtransaction store. You’ll be able to collect these items for free at any time and they’ll be applied to that particular character.
Q: When do I get my pre-order code?
A: If you’ve purchased at one of these stores and have not received a pre-order key, the retailers should provide you your pre-order key by:

    Target – 01.08.09
    Best Buy – 11.2.09
    Hastings – 01.08.10
    Amazon – 01.08.10
Q: Can I order Star Trek Online through Amazon if I am in Canada?
A: Absolutely. However, Canadian customers cannot order Star Trek Online through Amazon.ca. They must order through Amazon.com.
Q: I purchased my game from Gamestop. When do I receive my preorder code to get into Open Beta and the Head Start?
A: Right now, we're assured the codes will be delivered the week of January 5.
Q: What about Canadian retailers and their exclusives?
A: EB/Gamestop is the only retailer participating in our exclusives program. EB/Gamestop receives the same bonus as in the U.S., namely a Constitution class cruiser.
Q: How do I get the exclusive costume pieces and the Joined Trill?
A: Once you’ve added your retail key to your account, the costume pieces and Trill are unlocked for you during character creation.
Q: How much game time is included with the copy of the game?
A: Thirty days of game time is included with each retail copy of Star Trek Online. This stacks, so if you purchase three copies of the game, you will get 90 days of game time, as well as all the pre-order bonuses.
Q: If a player creates a character during headstart, then enters his retail key at launch (which opens up the exclusives), do pre-existing characters receive the exclusive items and costumes?
A: Yes, except for the Joined Trill.
For pre-order support, please email: preordersto@crypticstudios.com.

did my first pvp last night..not long after creating my klingon....I did Pvp at a star base. When in sector space..you pull up to a planet system. It gives you a menu with the types of PvP going on. I just chose the first in list.

It was a capture and control type. I have to say it was fun. I dont know how many people where in this instance. My first rez I looked around..saw the federation icons and klingon icons and the icon for a non captured point.

I headed for the non captured point.at warp speed..30km away...alone...oops.

3 fed ships came into view quickly at about 23 km and I dropped from warp speed. ( it drains powers). seen a second klingon coming up behind me and he drops out of warp 1 or 2 km behind me.
I am at top subwarp speed heading towards the 3 ships that are controlling the point. they are tightly together and I target the first one to be within 10km.(firing range).

In seconds 3 are firing on me..seconds later the second klingon is firing at my target...seconds later my forward shields are failing..I dont have cycle shields..I do have a engineer officer with the boost shields for 25 secs.

I keep main weapons forward..open up with my tachyon beam to take down his shields. his shields come down..my science officer i had trained to up power on torpedo..power that up and launch them....they do best against hulls..not shields.

by this time my forward shields are down from the 3 ships hitting my forwards shields..hull down to 50%..I start to turn my ship 360 letting them hit my other shields as the front shields regens.

I was not aware of the other 9 or 10 feds ships dropping out of warp till they opened fire on me...not sure..maybe 5 or 6 on me at same time..the other 3 still hitting rear shields. I lasted maybe 4 seconds...boom defeated.

15 second respawn timer...respawn....20 secs warp speed..Im back in the battle....its a hectic battle and situational awareness is key to staying alive.

the instanced battle is over after one side reaches a certain number of points(gained by controlling points)...we won....I got some loots. When I played we won the majority of the games. I didnt do too badly after a couple of rounds..more kills than deaths.

this is very team oriented in PvP and being with a group in voice..having certain ships setup with certain layouts..attacking with a plan....just like most MMo's...but the manuvering is vital here...being at the right place at the right time facing the right way.

and im just a noob in a noob ship with noob weapons. I imagine this gets way more fun and harder as you see more classes of ships around you and facing you.

and had my first taste of a tractor beam....grabbed me and I could not turn my ship...held me facing one way so he could work on one shield...seems like a very handy weapon. Im sure there is a counter measure..I just have not seen it yet.

only 3 hours of server time last night ..that went soooo damn fast.

Over all the game ran well..didnt notice any lag factoring in..no bugs that Ive found...

the server did go down for emergency patch..some people were having a serious problem. server taken down..it was patched (130mg) and was back in game in 20 mins. they added an hour to the server time.

i'd say there will be a mass countermeasure to a tractor (ie throw debris or junk into the beam path)

added up our recruitment page to get a few more people into the division and to try and bring in some fresh faces. Feel free to post and support our guild!

    http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=46265

I also created an "other games" recruitment form so Jeb to help recruiting for various games.

That sounds pretty intense. Alot of different ways to defeat an enemy is pretty nice feature. It will be interesting to see what the higher class ships will add to the mix.
