Do you know which i7? I have heard that CLP is an awful pain to work with. Whatever that link is, it doesn't work. Not for me anyway. Also, RAM came in today Going to run memtest and then continue with trying to reach 4.8 GHz
it is an i7 3770k @ 5GHz that was running between 61c and 72c from coldest to hottest core. With an H100 I think.
It's also not out of the question that your friend has temps that are 7c lower imo. All depends on what voltage his 3770k needs for 5 ghz. There is HUGE variability between processors. My 3570k is a pos and needs ~1.33v for 4.5. Some people can get 4.5 below 1.2v. Luck of the draw and mine has been poor so not surprising. ** RAM passes memtest for 15 hours with no errors at 1.6v
In the continuing saga that is computer upgrading....... I have since ditched my RAT 7 for the MUCH better Logitech G400s. It is so far above the RAT 7 I can't believe I ever put up with the RAT. I used to think the RAT was great. It feels so nice to have the mx518 shape back in my hand. It was the first mouse that I used on my own computer. My Crysis 3 stats have gotten better since using the mouse and I am using the tougher weapons. I for one like the look of the mouse and it is covered by my hand 99% of the time anyway. The missing macro keys are a moot point I have found out, keyboard and mouse. I won't be buying a mouse or keyboard with macro keys any time in the future. I have never used them and as with the leapmotion it may be blocked in games. I also found that aren't accessible as they aren't in the right range for me to reach easily. The leapmotion is plugged into my monitor but isn't seeing a whole lot of use. I am finding it a bit far away atm the moment for use and it is really sensitive. The best software so far for it is Gamewave and touchless is in second. It's a good toy for the time being. If I had windows 8 and I had a different desk setup I could see myself using it more. I really haven't given it the time to try and incorporate it into my daily use. I can see media control being one thing that it could do very well. Especially if I upgrade my keyboard in the near future (Likely) and end up sacrificing my media keys. Replacing mice in games is a stretch as some games actively block programs like this and your arms would get really tired. I have seen some gaem profiles for GW2 but it just seems like a pain in the ass. I sold off my hx1050 that was returned from rma and my h100. I have the stock intel cooler on my cpu right now but I was just notified by email that my Swiftech H320 was shipped today! Should get it by ~Tuesday methinks.
Finally got a chance to delid my 3570k yesterday! I've had CLU sitting around for about 2 months waiting for the H320 to finally be released. The H320 was delivered on Tuesday and I had a free moment to delid yesterday afternoon. Let me tell you, taking a hammer to my processor was a little unnerving :s but it all worked out well in the end! I couldn't be happier with the temps that I ended up with. I was a little worried after delidding because the IHS had some indentations from the jaws of the vice but the H320 is convex so I appplied a pea size drop of MX-4 between the IHS and cpu block and went on my merry way. I used to have an H100 and didn't get a chance to do a base line run to compare between the 2. The best I have is ~53 minute prime 95 run. H100 Prime95 run (OC done in BIOS): Custom torture test using 12600 Mb of memory 53 minutes CPU @ 4.5 Ghz + 1.35 v PLL @ 1.6 LLC@ High Max Temp: 78 Avg Temp: 65 H320 Run with delidding (Quick and dirty OC with AI Suite II): Custom w/ 12600 Mb of memory 3 hours CPU@ 4.5 Ghz + 1.36 v PLL@ 1.8 LLC@ High Max Temp 61 Avg Temp 54 Obviously these aren't ideal conditions to compare but it is clear that the delidding made a significant impact on the thermals. The H320 is great but I'm not going to attribute a 17C drop in max temp solely to it I made a video of the delidding for posterity and took some pictures along the way. Check out the video if you want to see what a mans vice looks like. Took 6.5 strikes to delid I apologize in advance for the dark lighting. Oh, and the underhand grip of the wood was a bad idea :/ To put on the clu I put about 4 lines worth of it on a piece of printer paper and just dabbed the provided brush in it and then painted it on the die and IHS. I had a ton left over and likely could have done between the IHS and cpu block as well. I instead opted for MX-4 because I wasn't sure about the indentations. Clean PCB Clean Die CLU on DIE and IHS Idle temps of cpu with ambient temp of 16-18 C.
Thank you sir, it was a lot of fun I didn't expect it to take as long as it did. The hardest part was mounting the H320. I wanted to use one bolt to attach the fans + radiator but it was too unwieldly so I had to use 12 to attach the fans to the rad and another 12 to attach the fans to the case The thing I hate the absolute most though is trying to get the mounting bracket installed for the cpu blocks.
It's awesome and it is quieter than the H100 ever was. I still need to sit down and do a full BIOS overclock to 4.5 with this thing to see how the delidding really worked. I can't wait to expand it to the GPU ^.^ I also updated the initial post with regular use programs for people that like to know what others use.
