What size do you want? Might want to start there. Mid, full, micro? Air or water cooling options?

I've talked myself into getting something more "future-proof" (that's a way of talking myself into spending more money so my games get great FPS!) ;)

It's going to have a liquid cooler, as Enigma suggested. I'm not going to overclock it a lot, but it's nice to have the option.
It's going to have a GTX680, I looked at one at the shop and it's not particularly massive like some cards, so probably doesn't need a tremendous amount of room.
It's going to have 1 SSD and 1 mechanical HDD.
Probably going to get a 750W+ power supply, if I want to make it more "future-proof" later on (or if the price of GTX680s declines at some point) I might want to SLI another one in there.
More fans usually = good, so if I can get a bunch with the case that would be great. I live in a cold climate though, so it's not a huge deal to have tons of fans for very hot days.
I don't want to spend a whole crap ton on a case though, I found a local deal on a Phantom for around $100 so I thought that might be okay. I also want it to look nice too...a lot of these cases look f*cking ridiculous.
USB3 plugs would be nice, I'm sure I'm going to have some device that uses them in the future and it would be nice to have them built into the case.
It doesn't need a handle or a security system or a disco ball or any of this other insane junk they seem to tag into cases to increase the price. I like LEDs, but I'm not going to pay extra for them when I can get some for $5 from Walmart and string them myself. :p

I don't think this stuff is going to need a whole ton of room, but it's not going to fit in a micro. A mid to full size should do just fine, probably better to go with a full though. :D

This is one I am thinking about getting, but it is rather large:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129178

I really like the idea of a fan behind the motherboard as the MB right under the processor does get pretty hot. It would also help cool the power regulation on the motherboard. That probably isnt too useful for you, but it would help my overclocks. The only thing keeping me from buying it is that this case still wouldn't fit my dual 120mm rad properly unless I do some mods.

This is the other one I really want, but the price is just too much:

I think I'm going to have to go with the Coolermaster HAF X. It's the only one with USB 3.0 that my local shop has that actually has a better price than NewEgg (albeit only by $5). The difference between this and the Antec 1100 at my local shop is $20, so...yeah. It's not ridiculously priced and seems to have a lot of good features and reviews. It looks *okay* but not awesome, but to go awesome I'd have to get that Coolermaster Cosmos II and I'm not going to spend $400 on a case. :(

You think $400 is a lot, go look at Windy Soldam cases. $1200 to get one in the US :p

I had a HAF932. Roughly the same but the X has a few more perks. Its a great case but quite large.

If you think you are going to SLI then you might want a larger PSU. Just FYI. Just be sure its a decent one, NEVER skimp on a PSU. NEVER!

Do you think 750W is enough of a power level or should I go for 850W?

If you are going to sli no less than 850. X79 platform, while more efficient die, will still suck up a lot of power.

Honestly think 1k wouldn't be bad idea.

I also heard word from Raja@ASUS on the memory stuff with Z77. It is a different way to lay out the traces on the motherboard to minimize skewing of the RAM. This will help keep things in sync better and will help extend overclock on the memory when all RAM slots are populated. It doesnt increase the performance of the memory compared to any other company if both are running the same speed, but simply lets you OC higher with the ASUS board. There are no advantages when only using 1 or 2 RAM slots, the difference is ONLY when using all 4 slots. This is because when only using 2 slots there is no slot-slot skew that needs to go on. Since I doubt any of you will be pushing 2800MHZ+ it probably wont actually matter for any of you

I have also seen the new Ivy Bridge processors still top out around 5GHz on air cooling, just like SB. The difference is that Ivy doesnt need as much voltage to get there and the probability of hitting that high is greater.

    It's a $20 difference between the 750W and the 1000W so...I guess I'm going to nickel and dime myself to death...LOL :D

So far, this is what I'm looking at:

With plans to add more RAM, another GTX680 as needed in the future (or as good sales pop up)

I'm buying from a local shop rather than NewEgg because I don't trust myself to install that liquid cooler right. Also because I'm in Canada and buying from the USA and paying shipping and taxes will make it more money anyway. The only other option is TigerDirect, but I built my last system from them and they sent me a few broken parts and it took an extra few weeks to get the darn thing together because of it. It also was really annoying. The local shop also does free overclock and benchmark testing and parts replacement within a short time, so if they screw it up I have some insurance.

Geez, so much for *on the cheap*. The problem is it would annoy me so much more to lock myself into an outdated system and not be able to play stuff until my next upgrade 4 years down the road. For $1,000 more I can get something that's pretty much top tier now with room to add more RAM and another SLI'd card where it counts once prices go down a bit on the relevant parts. I guess that's probably worth it?

    I'm a horrible person. :(

All that stuff should come to around $1800 or so I think?
You can save money by getting a 1TB drive instead of 2TB.
Also, do you need to be able to burn DVDs? Especially bluray ones? You can get a DVD writer for much cheaper than a blueray one.

That deluxe board is going to be expensive, $280 or so. Best to get a lesser board. Even the Maximum V Gene is much cheaper. I would choose either the Maximum V or P8Z77-V and save another $75

Hm, I'm worried about installing the liquid cooler though. I've read in the comments that a lot of people found it very confusing. I'm also concerned that if I do it wrong I'll burn out my processor by accident.

As for the burner, I kind of thought it might be nice to have. Bluray will probably become more common and I don't actually have a player.

I talked with the IT guy at work today and he said he'd give me a hand with the liquid cooler, so I guess NewEgg it is! Saves me a cool $400! :D

Now just need to wait 2 or 3 weeks for the Ivy release :)

Just remember that when launch day is approaching to check Newegg about 35 times that day. If you miss the launch by an hour or two you are likely to find the new processors sold out for another week or two.

Thanks for the advice! :) I'm not in any big hurry, but sooner is definitely better. I won't be able to use it much until after June 4, so if I don't get it together until then it's no big loss. Still, it would be nice to have it!
