What is the real difference between these two tiers? I would like to see peoples responses before I post why I am asking this question...
it depends on the generation. In its most current gen, the usual difference is that an i5 does not have hyper-threading and an i7 does. This translates to 20-30% more processing power because of the additional threads.
Okay. I was asking because of something I came across when I was looking through over-clocking guides and information. I had always believed that there was NO i5s besides mobile CPUs that had the ability of hyper-threading. I was surprised when I ran across older i5s that actually had hyper-threading which made me want to ask this question to see if there is any other major difference between the current i5s and i7s.
