But in the end it all comes down to that simple question. How much did you enjoy it? You can make a huge list of pros and cons, charts and graphs showing similarities and such. But what comes on top is the amount of fun you had. And for me this game was WAY on top. I had so much fun, now I wanna play Mass Effect 2 again to get ready for Mass Effect 3... especially since they announced the last DLC for the end of the month
So in the end, is this game worth getting? I've heard a load of mixed review and I personally don't have to spend the cash to get a game that is a POS. I played a bit of the first one and I enjoyed it but people say that the game has changed. Some say for the better and some for the worse.
It's totally worth it. Reviews are mixed but it's still above 80% even with the retards voting 0/10 for stupid reasons. If you enjoyed the first one for it's story, cut-scenes and top notch writing... you will enjoy this one. If you enjoyed the first one for the barbie dress up with your NPCs, then you won't If you played Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, the same thing happened here. Simplification of the game for the casual player, still has a very complex system for the hardcore player.
Depending on what you're looking for, you might like Origins better. I did. Origins is a solid 10/10 for me, whereas DA2 is a good 8/10. In general, if you just want something to play casually for fun, DA2 is good. If you want a longer, more immersive, game go with Origins. I wouldn't go so far as to say DA2 is an Action RPG, but it's on that track. Meanwhile, Origins is not action-oriented at all. Comparison with DA:O for me is like this: Origins has... - Great dialogue with party members - You can chat with each one for a while and have an interesting conversation - A more epic storyline - Stiff combat - Better sense of choice and consequence - Your actions weigh more on the world - A more personalized story - Each race has it's own interesting start to the storyline and it ties in later in the game - A finalistic ending - You get an epilogue for every major decision you made throughout the game DA2 has... - Better character-related side quests - Faster/better combat - Better graphics (though not by a lot) - Straightforward gameplay - Cool boss fights - An open ending - Definitely leads into a sequel
I agree with mostly everything you said Kellexx, but I wanted to touch this point in more details. I felt there was more character depth in DA2 than DA:O, you learn about as much in both games but DA2 goes forward. In DA:O it's all about finding out what brought them to this point, what made them, what happened in their past. DA2 brings it one step forward, not only do you learn about their past but you follow their evolution throughout the years. The characters are also an integral part of the main story line, where most DA:O characters could die and the main story would not have changed much, put aside a few of them. It's also interesting to see them "living" their lives without you, in DA:O they slept in your camp and went wherever you would go. There's also a lack of interaction between them in DA:O, yes they would have different conversations as you travel but it's nothing like the friendships and hatred built between characters in DA2... that even affects the main story. Same for the conversation feature they added, where you ask the opinion of your group or let your NPC handle a situation. DA:O used a bit of that but it was very limited. I liked the character choices in DA:O better than DA2, but I feel a lot more attached to the ones in DA2. They feel a lot more real. Could also be due to the fact that your main character has an actual voice and attitude in this one.
Hmm.. I suppose that makes it worth reconsidering. I was referring to how you can sit and chat with each person for a long time and have an interesting conversation. It gave me more of a sense that I know who the person is and what they're like. I guess DA2 has its own depth with the character-specific quests that are more interesting and more involvement in the story. Kinda the same idea for your own character. In DA2 it actually shows the type of personality you're projecting, but there's a variable history for your character in Origins. Well played sir.
It kind of makes sense that your party members would wear what they want. I mean technically they are people. It also makes upgrading gear easier since you only have to look at you own instead of comparing what everyone's wearing and figuring out how your going to switch every piece around to maximize the groups effectiveness. I give this game a solid 9.5/10 (too hard to get rivalry points imo. Its like people want to be your friend TOO much.) Can't wait to see what Bioware does with ME3, and the DLC for 2 on the 29th.
I'm very stoked for ME3, although I'm not a big advocate of DLC -I might have to check out 'The Arrival' that's coming out and read reviews to see if it really progressed the story a bit. I just got burnt out on my second playthrough of DA:2. Kirkwald finally got to me. Will have to pick it up in another week or two and try to continue playin' it.
I'm thinking about it, but I was never really a big fan of ME. I mean I liked it, but I liked DA: O a lot. Will buy DA 2 sometime whenever I can.
Over steam I just used the entitlement code (the one that grants black emporium) and got the ME2 unlock, good find there.
Even if you were a Buddhist monk meditating 24/7 in some lost mountains, you still would be expected to play and finish ME2. It's that good.
Haha +1 I agree, imo there's just some games that any person who calls themselves a gamer should at least try out.. ME and DA series are in that category. It's like saying "yeah, I'm crazy about movies and love critiquing them but I haven't seen The Godfather, or Citizen Kane.." Not gunna fly.
I knew I shoulda held onto my copy of DA2. I have ME2 for the box, but would have gladly taken a free copy on another platform.
