Can we specifically direct our donations towards one thing and not vent, since I've never used it?

All of our members are required to use vent.
I can't exactly set aside your money to a folder or anything to help me remember...But I can note it and TRY to make sure that the money is spent where you would like it to go..

donations are pretty much used for vent and hosting, asking for your money to go to one or the other is silly as both need to be paid, and will be paid with either your money or someone else's.

Perhaps if enough people donate there could be some t-shirt giveaways, prizes, etc like some other guilds do, however, there is just enough money to keep everything going, let alone extras.

IMO we need a donation "Goal" and "Achieved" status on the main page that would be updated when someone donates or the goal is reached. In this fashion we could properly prove the money is going to a good place and that left over money will be spent as needed for extra items like prizes, and t-shirts.

    Like this (top right)
    http://www.instantz.net/index.php

Also, phpbb has functions for setting up subscriptions for donations in set amounts such as $2 every month or $5 every month (can cancel anytime). Combine this with prizes for donators, the nice award icons that are in the works and you can even do some name coloring for people that donate.

We could also use alternative payments like a PO Box.

Well, That has been asked for several times. To be honest, I'm wanting to get away from asking members for donations altogether.
P.O Box is in the works and there is always my address.

How about we try to get some sponsors for our site/vent.. I believe a few gaming communities have this option.

the problem with the goal thing Kyoji is that this is an ongoing cost... so if we do the goal for 6 months, and then people see we have extra and want xoo tshirts made, what about the next 6 months where maybe we are short $...
If we wanted to run it month by month, but dash went through the donations and in Jan we had no donations, and feb we had 2... so we don't get enough each month to pay for the month, instead we go with bursts of every few months when the $ runs out, we remind people we have bills that need paying and get a burst of donations that last us another few months.

(and dash is already doing the giveaway type thing)
Not sure if any of that is left or not though

VB has a subscription service as well, but I am pretty sure it's a bit poorly designed.

This has been a good donation drive. We have enough to cover almost 4.5 months.

I'd like to put this on hold at this point because I am unsure where we are as far as T-Shirts go.

    Thanks for all the support!

Instead of tshirts we should have different levels of donation icons, like bronze, silver, gold, platinum, club, etc.

Something like that will be happening in the future.

club members may get temporary seats in the Xenate, but act only as observers with no voting privileges.
