The only thing I've heard from people is that the CG is fucking amazing. No one is saying anything about anything else =/

Which usually equals generic crap with good graphics but they are to distracted to know.

Umm... I'm not really sure. I saw the flatscreen version and liked it though. And I suspect many of the scenes could have been cooler in 3D.

Basically, if you're going for the visuals... which is, eh, maybe half the movie? Then maybe it'd be worth it, yeah, depending what value you put on them. To me a lot of the awesomeness of the visuals was just down to creative direction and ideas, which can be pretty well appreciated regardless.

To be honest, I really liked the story. It is a little hard to be sure how much that means considering how horribly subjective such things are - and I'm definitely not a connoisseur of screenplays (hell, I have a slightly positive opinion of that of New Moon, which seems to make me a bit of a rarity) - but it was fun, and it's something I could see myself watching again some time.

I saw this yesterday, and I have one thing to say: the story sucks for a Cameron film. Too long and drawn out, and completely cliched and predictable. But the 3-D visuals were pretty cool, though not as mind-blowing as everyone seems to say. And the mech action was better in District 9 IMO. Personally, I think District 9 (I'm comparing that since it has aliens, mechs, and the big bad military types) is the better movie but Avatar is worth a watch.

Above person is full of shit. Maybe the storyline is predictable... yeah i'll give you that one. But that does not mean the story is a bad one. I spent 10.50$ to see it in 3d, and I was not dissapointed. The visuals were amazing, story line was very appealing to its audiences. Yes it was a longer movie, but I think it had to be, for what Cameron wanted to show/say within the movie. All n all id have to give Avatar a 9/10.

Oh yeah im seeing it a second time on tuesday, so that'll be another 10.50

well, the movies in town are certainly nothing to speak of... much better places are 3hrs away and imax is just 5hrs.

wow, are you like a 12 yr old who never saw a good movie before? I don't mind long movies, and I wasn't really disappointed, because all the reviews basically said it was a sci-fi Pocahontas. I expected more though. I could do without all the nature hippy crap too, which Cameron admitted influenced the story writing. And for a spoiler:
the whole mother nature fighting back at the end was extremely gay.

I gotta tell you EF2 you missed A LOT of what the story was about and especially the part you spoiled. The one critisim I have of the work right now is that it didn't explore the nature (ironically) enough. I don't want to discuss it more since most people are still working on seeing it but there is a lot more to avatar then "space pocohantas" And frankly District 9 was only so so. Frankly the short film that was its progenitor was much better.

Well, for me it was a hit. An action movie with a plot of more than just blow stuff up I could enjoy with a love story that my wife loved.

EF2 is entitled to his/her own opinion, so respect that. If he/she did not like the movie, he/she did not like the movie. But one person saying the movie was ok compared to 10 that says it was excellent....hmmmmm 1/10 odds, id say thats very good.

Oh btw im 24, which is half of 12, so you win.....

I've only heard bad things from my friends about it. It's nothing more than a dances with wolves ripoff with overused themes and no originality whatsoever.

I am going with the masses here.

The story was decent, if an unoriginal theme. There were a few parts I didn't like - mostly because I was annoyed with the storyline interrupting my suspended disbelief and my immersion into the visually stunning world.

I was pretty blown away by the CG, but surprisingly enough, a short ways into the movie I stopped really noticing it for the most part, and just enjoyed the movie.

So yeah, it was indeed a bit dances with wolves-ish, but all in all, it was well worth the money spent.

Read this morning that Cameron is planning 2 more movies. Continuing the story of the same characters. He said he has a storyarc planned, but no script yet. And with all the work already done, the movies would be made much faster than Avatar.

Great movie, this did not disappoint me at all. Cameron picked the actors for the roles really well.

    Def. recommend this.

99% of all big movies nowadays are ripoffs or redos of older themes/movies/books/ideas. Get used to it :)

I enjoyed it. I really like the pocahontas/dww story. I also especially like when the human race are the bad guys. So to stick all that in an action CG 3d imax movie with big ships and mechs is total win.

    8/10

(I also thought the nature fighting back part was ghey)
