Don't be fooled this had nothing to do with bandwidth or pirating and had everything to do with Bell and Rogers wanting to protect their content creation and distribution divisions from alternative content consumption methods like Netflix and PSN/XBL. By making it more expensive to use such services then it would be to pay for their over priced and bloated cable and satellite offerings.

This is precisely 100% true. Bell and Rogers have done this kind of thing in the past and have a history of gouging, predatory tactics and just plain old supervillainy. I don't think they have a single customer in the country who likes them at all. They're abusive, deceptive and just plain rotten. I've known some people who have worked for them, and even their employees hate them. I think Strombo put it best, it's high-greed internet!

...and cell phones?? Don't even get me started on their cell plans!

Ya I've been keeping an eye on this for some time and it just pisses me off. Luckily I'm in Alberta and it doesn't seem so bad out here, but if nothing is done it catch up to the rest of us. I love my bell phone plane, but there internet plans just sucks. It also sucks that other companies competing are forced to charge the same and offer the same. This is really hard to believe.

I'm in Alberta too. I use Shaw for internet and they're not too bad, they don't limit my usage at all. As for cell plans, there is no beating Wind...$40 a month for unlimited everything! Rogers is panicking to try and keep up with them, they've already lost a few law suits against them for their predatory practices with their "Chatr" brand and they're losing more ground to them every day. The new brands are going to FORCE these incumbent jerks to have reasonable rates and stop ripping people off. Go Wind!! :D
