Man, everyone's already upgraded or upgrading to the i7's.
I'm waiting for those prices to drop.

I upgraded some pieces at the end of last summer,
    things of notice:

    >> Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
    >> EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3
    >> CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
    >> GIGABYTE GA-EP35C-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Dynamic Energy Saver Ultra Durable II Intel Motherboard

The 8800 and mobo aren't even made anymore, well -
    been deactivated on Newegg. Heh.

Going to wait until the end of this year, or possibly beginning of next to upgrade,
just waiting on price to drop for the i7's, luckily the geforce 200 series are
already dropping very fast in price.

They have been dragging their heels a bit, yes. I understand there's an i5 line-up coming out that might help a bit with that though. Doesn't sound like the i7s will be upgraded this year though - at least not from what I've heard so far.

    Anyway:
    Core i7 920
    12 GB DDR3-1066 SDRAM
    EVGA GTX 285 1GB
    MSI X58 Pro (motherboard)
    X-Fi Titanium
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB
    Corsair 650W PSU
Running Windows 7 RC right now.

Oh yeah? Well my first computer was the size of a whole room and ran on punch cards!

Not really, I'm not quite that old. But I do remembers the days of the big ole floppy disks for the original Apples.

I had an Athlon 64 3200+ machine for 3 years I think, up until the end of June or so. Worse than that? :)

$1300 should go a long way towards a new system these days though. Not many reasonable systems that won't buy.
