Source The short short version. While the laptop it is first being demo'd on isn't all that amazing the fact that the technology is now here is. Essentially what WiDi is going to allow us to do is broadcast/stream our PC's to any display without the need for wired monitors/TVs. For anyone that is into HTPC's or likes PC gaming from the barcalounger this is fantastic news. If this ends up operating off of an RF/Bluetooth/WiFi signal as opposed to IR, you can literally run every component to your PC and put the receiver behind the TV and with a single 1ft HDMI line have your entire house wired instantly. With the changes to Windows Media Center and the new PCI HD programmable cable cards being built the next few years will be very exciting. It would be so nice to be able to condense an entire rack down to one output line and one USB.
