    Just thought you should be aware:

    I think the formula for deciding whether to opt out or not should go something like this:

    if(tsaEmployee.sex==F && tsaEmployee.hotness>6) tsaEmployee.patDown(me);
    else me.cancer++;

    LOL I concur with your equation.

    But seriously, it is a health concern. It has been known that X-Rays cause health problems because it puts radiation in your body. I dont really know if these are much worse than normal x-ray machines at the doctor or whatever, but I guess it would be sine even at the doctor's they put a lead lined vest around areas they dont want an x-ray of and the docto's always stand all far away while they blast you. So its something to think about if you should put your whole body through them or not.

    I can safely say that the amount of radiation you receive is not enough you harm you. However, if you do fly frequently and must past by them 100s of times a year like pilots, then their is cause for concern.

    Passing by an Xray machine isn't going to do shit to you.

    I don't disagree with you, but you don't want to do it repeatedly. Small doses wont do shit to you. However a constant hit of small doses do add up especially where radiation is concerned. Your body can only take so much and it doesn't have to be all at one time.

    The pilots union are the only people who have any reason to not like the implementation of this. Normal people who fly on vacation shouldn't be concerned.

    True but pilots walking by a machine that probably won't be on every day won't do shit. No one is going to ever get cancer from any amount of exposure to an airport xray machine. No matter how much they fly.

    Not to contradict Sokar, but It's a pretty established fact that X-ray radiation is harmful under large doses. Look up the electromagnetic spectrum. It has a high-frequency wavelength enough to penetrate flesh and distort the molecular integrity of your body.

    Now you may have a point but it would help if you state your reasoning.. I have no idea how airport scanners work so I will prefer to avoid them until proven safe.

    Can you please provide me with evidence supporting your beliefs that X-Rays do not cause health problems? Everything I have ever been taught suggests otherwise.

    You are an ignorant prick. Just shut the fuck up.

    There is no such thing as a harmless X-ray scan.
    Every time you undergo one, you weigh your need of information about your body against the harmful effect of the radiation.
    If you are sick and need an exam, the present danger of the sickness outweighs the risks of the irradiation (maybe).

    In addition of this, there have been cases of irradiation by a fuck-up in the software/handling of the radioactive emitter. People have died from this.
    You would have thought medical apparatus is closely controlled for such defects, actually not so.
    I leave to your imagination the amount of medical verification those airport machines are under (my guess is zero).

    lol.

    No shit X-rays cause damage. Any sort of radiation causes damage in large amounts. Walking outside with you feet in the dirt will cause more radiation exposure than X-ray machines in the airport that you probably won't be scanned by. Either way they will not cause damage to the degree that you guys are worried about. Yes radiation is cumulative but the amount is way below anything that you should ever worry about.

    Here's the idiot version for saff.

    LINKY!

    But here's the actual data from the TSA site about the scanners which were posted earlier but deleted.
    http://www.tsa.gov/research/reading/index.shtm For all your reading.

    In summary:

    People getting scanned - Below 25 mrem annually if you are scanned 46 times a day for 365 days.

    One scan emits 1.58umrem(u stands for micro!) (less than the 10umrem limit in place)

    Below 100rmem(yeesh) if there are 238 scans an hour at 40 hours a week 8 hours a day.

    Now add that up and then compare it to all the radiation you receive from everywhere else. shitty link but its a geiger counter company...

    Link

    For further comparison:

    Note that those aren't micro mrem. If I were you guys I wouldn't be worried about silly crap that isn't going to effect you. I would be more worried about them seeing the hamster bottle up your ass. *giggle* Now if you work next to an x-ray machine I would bitch a little and maybe crack a joke about how you want to have kids later on in life.

    I showed you mine. Show me yours.

    I got checked when I was 11 (family trip) at least twice when flying.

    How is an 11 year old going to do some damage? I mean, without using your imagination - honestly. Shoulda checked my parents if anything.

    INB4 Saff vs Sokar Royale.
