after discussing stuff with esk the other day, about my gfx running hot (thats b/c the fan was auto adjusting) i would like a new rig. build my self i guess. i just went and scoped out some stuff. Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146047 PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817814012 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115201 MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128375 CPU Cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118046 RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227326 HD: 2X http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136320 VID: 2X http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143155 Bay Drivers: 2X http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136152 Speakers: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121122 OS: ?????? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116493 Keyboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823164012 Card Reader: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820816001 Now some of this depends on price and etc. and what you guys/gals think. I already have 1 GTX 260 on my current rig and still have old ATI 2600 X so if i do this, all i have to do is buy another gtx 260. OS, depends on whether i should go 32 bit or 64 bit. if i do this new system, i have a (purely for video and multimedia editing)500 GB hd and this puppy as it looks should have enough air flow. Oh yea, as it sits in the wish list, it's $1,934.86 if u can find something similar or better at a lower price. suggest it. Pretty much, top good case, I7, DDR3, 2X GTX 260, and a solid reliable hd from Western Digital. Also, this would be the first system i would build.

My thoughts: - Vista Ultimate is unnecessary. Home Premium is fine. -Better case worth the extra cost -Speakers are weak, get a headset so we all don't have to hear your feedback plz -You pay x2 as much for an i7 940 as you would for an i7 920, and the performance gap is far from being worth it. Also, I'm pretty sure the overclocking headroom is about the same. -Not sure about your motherboard, I'll look into it and edit later.
ok, i like the case, but it's a little heavy on price but the i7 downgrade is ok. buddy, ult. rules prem. hell, i don't even know if i'll get those speakers. i just put it in the list. i have a headset but it's tight on my head and btw, squirls background sound is worse than mine i do believe. 64 bit is what i was thinking of.
When you buy premium, you go to the microsoft website and order the disk for the 64bit with your product key (like $10 plus shipping). I have no clue why you would need ultimate. The case becomes affordable when you consider that you save $250+ on the cpu by going to the i7 920. With the SLI configuration, you definitely want a good case that can cool your stuff well. You also want to be sure your motherboard supports it well (two PCIe x16 slots that are positioned well). So you may want to consider a more expensive mobo with better features and bios. If you go to the 920, and premium you will save enough money to get the better case, better mobo, and a good headset (no feedback!!!!!!!). One note on mobos: I have an Asus P6T Deluxe which people like for 2 gfx cards.
That case is very badly made, NZXT only ever made one good case and it was the Nemesis Elite. For the build you're looking for you should get a full tower case, I'd suggest the Coolermaster Cosmos S or the Lian Li PC-P80, and I always switch my stock fans for Xigmatek fans, as they have the highest airflow the quietest db levels.
ok, after going over this some more. i have come up with. I pretty much, want this computer to be fully upgradeable in the future, that is why, i would like to have that much room for drives. this would also be a nice platform for video editing with Edius neo which i already have.
