So I am getting ready to buy new parts and pretty much build me a new rig, and here's the part list. Power SUpply = not so much Where is your hard drive? a 40GB SSD wont get you anywhere as it will barely cover your Windows install Get a Noctua DH-14 as it is a better cooler and I think cheaper If your going all out like this then get some good 1866 RAM or even 2133. that Bulldozer processor makes a ton of trips to RAM and back since it cache is jacked up, so you need the fastest RAM you can afford. It also can run RAM up to 2400 speeds pretty easily so anything will be compatible. Do you need 7 more USB ports? Modern motherboard already have between 6-10 on the back panel as is. Very pricey tower. Do you really want that one? If so then get it, but you can do perfectly fine with a cheaper tower if you want to save some money And where if your graphics card? If recommend a Thuban 1110T processor instead of the FX-8150. If you go with this one then Id also suggest a beefier motherboard if you plan to overclock it. Also you need another old processor to do the install as you must upgrade your bios to support the FX-8150 and you cant update the bios without a working processor. SO you need a cheap old AM3 single core CPU to get it working first to do the bios update to make your FX-8150 work.
The SSD is just for the, windows only, just to cut down on boot time, Everything else will be stored on one of two of 3 TB hard drives i'll be ordering
But you forgot a graphics card. Also remember that although it will fit just a Windows install, you cannot uncompress winrar and winzip files on a drive that small as it decompresses to a temp folder on the C drive, and if C only has 2GB of free space then you can only decompress 2GB files at most. Windows 7 will take 10-15, then a 6GB pagefile, your normal programs like Photoshop and all that would be another 5GB. DLL buildup over a couple years is another 2-4GB. Thats like 30GB used up, so you would have 8GB or so for temp files and all that. Might work ok. The Thuban 1100T is a much better processor as it still has more cores than most people need, runs at the same speed, and has much better single threaded performance and IPC in general. So it is a better processor.
I was hoping this wasn't about computers and that it was just accidentally posted in the wrong section.
I agree with the questions posed here. Why only a 40gb? that wont work. Why that power supply? There's so many other choices that will work- but be awesome. and where the video card? oops! Also, have you considered a closed loop liquid cooler rather than that gigantor v8? They cool better, they're quieter, cost roughly the same, and besides- CM v8's are soo two thousand and late. And they allow for quick bragging rights, You get to say you have a liquid-cooled 8-core with no extra work. Try this.
The 40GB is only for windows and that is it, so it will only be used for boot up and what not. Everything else will be stored and installed on one of two 3TB drives that I'll be ordering, power supply, ya i can change that out pretty easy, any suggestions? And as far a liquid cooling I dont trust it. I've used it twice before, and both times I've had parts fail, and almost blew up my CPU. Noise from the fan dont bother me anyways, its my white noise to sleep at night anyways
What's the reviews say about that cooler though? And would it be a simple instal with the case im getting?
Either way those two coolers you are looking at are both gigantic, I would check and double check that you won't have issues with that cooler and the ram slots, as I have seen multiple motherboards that place the ram too close to the CPU, therefore using higher profile ram like the ripjaw series with the heatsinks, you may have issues with them fitting. Not sure if you already checked or not heh, but also the Noctua is the best you can get for air cooling, keeps up with some of the water coolers too at that point. I personally am going Corsair H100 just because I get a sick deal for it and don't want something that big smack dab in the middle of my case, besides that everything looks good except the power supply. Kingwin is an okay company, but everything I have seen at where I work puts them below average in quality, so thats completely upto you, I only go with Antec, Corsair, or OCZ for my power supplies since they always have the best reviews usually and make better quality, more silent and efficient PSU's.
Windows 7 64 bit is a pig, you'll need more than that unless you are really comfortable with obsessive maintenance. 50GB minimum, but you'll probably only find 60GB minimum available.
I hate AMD so id tell you to go intel. Get better performance anyway. =X also will cost about the same too.
May be better performance, but no where near the same price. A AMD FX-8150 Zambezi 3.6GHz Socket AM3+ Eight core is $269.99 Where as say the Intel Core i7-980 Gulftown 3.33GHz Six core is $579.99 <--And that's not even Intel's highest chip So less GHz, less cores, and a higher price tag. While I have always loved Intel until the come up with an Eight core chip and compete with price, I'm actually switching over for now. Plus I'm sure I'll be overclocking as well
agh... another amd/intel argument. Before you make your decision, look at benchmarks that compare performance for near exact price matched cpu's rather than simply look at the numbers on the box. You may be in for a surprise. Of course, the newest intels are going to be expensive- they always are. I bought my first amd system a short while back: the laptop Im on right now. Its so stable, i was convinced I had to have more amd- I rebuilt my computer to run amd hardware. I wish I hadnt. I cant put my finger on it, but I doubt I will ever buy another amd system. No doubt, Its reasonably stable and fairly fast. But, I think several people here will agree, there's just something about it that makes the system feel second rate... like there is lead in the boots. Little hiccups that hang the system, or slow boots on rare occasion. Its hard to explain, but I been building intel systems for a looong time. I've upgraded my computer with what could be considered six to nine months old from top of the line almost every six to twelve months without fail since the early nineties. Im talking starting even before the old 233mhz old school Pentiums- the kind that required huge amounts of power and would get so hot they would meltdown if used too long. In fact, if you laid the computer on its side on a desk, you could warm up a drink by putting it on the box or in the exhaust vent! (ehh? did I charge up a few old memories, guys?) I digress... Point is, I get Intel. I know Intel. I've got a great feel for what I'm getting and what it will cost/perform. With my new AMD system, Its just the opposite. I've had nothing but underwhelming results. I cant help but feel it should be faster for all the hype and huge numbers and marketing claimed on the box. I know a lot of people who be head-nodding at that last comment when it comes to what AMD claims.
thats interesting, I have thought the exact same thing with 3 of my 4 Intel systems, and only 1 of my 5 AMD systems. I dont think it is the processors themselves but rather a combination of the parts being used that is the problem. Which processor are you talking about specifically in this case? And what is your RAM speed and motherboard with it? Also, did you install Windows in AHCI mode or IDE?
I can safely say I have no idea what you're talking about, this discrepancy simply does not exist. However, there are some famous quotations out there, somewhere, about ghosts in the code emerging after endless hours of program work late into the night.
