Fact: Michael Phelps' blood lactate levels after serious exercise is only 1 third that of any other elite athlete. That means his body 'feels' the effects of 100% exertion way less than other humans and is therefore able to recover faster.

Enjoy the moment because we all watched history in the making.

In a previous life (1992) I was lucky enough to race at the Barcelona Olympics.

Tell me, is Phelps a superstar now in the US? If he was an Australian he'd be worth millions now but in America the swimmers play third fiddle to the footballers, baseballers, ice hockey players, basketballers etc.. .

I heard some sports promoters on the radio this morning estimating that he could make 40-50m in endorsement deals over the next year...

    What he does after that?

Considering Time mag put the much overrated Lebron James on their cover as the Olympian to look out for, yeah swimmers do play third fiddle. Of course, swimming as a competitive sport isn't really huge here.

I live in Canada =p. But he is getting tons of buzz, 40-50m in endorsements is probably just the beginning for him.

Perhaps a Michael Phelps Swimming Reality series? =p

He got 1 million from speedo for getting his 7th medal but I am sure the wheatie commercials and box cover are coming his way! I don't know about 40-50m in a year but I would imagine he will be making some serious scratch.

i've been seeing commercials featuring him for a bit now, so I'd say for his sport he is def a superstar.

You know, sometimes I cannot tell you apart from your average everyday forum Troll. Do you like to spark controversy or do you honestly believe most of the garbage you spew?
