Check out this page for legit stuff on the games economy. (if you missed it) https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/engineering/13128-The-Star-Citizen-Economy
Thanks it's a very good link indeed. Seems that NPCs will have a lot of influence to begin with then players can replace them little by little. It's good as it will ensure having missions for everyone. Also seems that the Idris takes 1 month to be manufactured, when u get all components, so it should takes, say, 3 months by the time u get ur components and assemble them into a final ship. It'll also depend on how many ships the shipyards can produce at one time and how many shipyards exist. They don't mention if u can destroy a node or not tho. That'd be an interesting information and could lead to big big battles when someone attacks another corp's shipyard or weapons factory. Now i hope they'll have enough time to test this very carefull because the more complex the economy is the more exploits u can find.
Yeah, I noticed the one month Idris thing as well. So I was wondering if that meant it'll take one month minimum to replace an Idris after it gets destroyed (assuming you have insurance). If thats the case, then some of the more paranoid members (the ones who don't wanna let nub's fly XOO owned capitol ships) would be justified in their craziness. edit: Wouldn't it be cool if we got information that 'so-and-so' organization is building their next big capital ship at 'such-and-such' a place and we could go and blow it up before it gets complete?
Oh shit u're right if it takes 1 month to get it replaced (and that's without the components building time !) that'd be devastating to lose a corvette. I don't think it'll be like that because that'd make the game very hardcore haha, even if it'd make sense tho. That's a very very good question tho. But yeah about cap ships, it'll take like 3 months to build them so it'd be a very very tense moment for the corp building em, having an enemy clan pop out at 4a.m on a tuesday morning to take it out. I wonder how it'll work, really because it can bring a lot of possibilities. They could do it like in SWG too with specific vulnerability times (even if it's not really logical) or like in EVE where it's "u got it u manage it, ur problem". U could always hire a NPC fleet to defend it and all. Well, we have a lot of possibilities here, just hope it'll turn out well.
Remember, most ships will NOT be built by players. The corporations building ships will almost all be NPC. We're just going to be able to influence supply of materials. Yes, an Idris will take 3+ weeks to repair as they're made to order and they're not quickly made. Any ship you lose could take an extended amount of time to be replaced if it isn't a common ship, or if it is a common ship but someone has been blockading the factory that makes them.
So would it be possible to steal a half finished capital ship from another corp/NPC and then finish it as your own?
Which is probably why people are allowed to fly other peoples ships. If you only have one ship and it gets blown up...well haha. But if a friend will let you into their hangar you can use of their ships.
It's part of it for sure. There will also be contract missions that provide a ship for you (at decreased margins).
