So, after not really watching TV enough to hear about this change mentioned around the last time I watch some the channel (around the time Battlestar Galactica last aired), I discovered flipping through the channels at work tonight that yet another tv personality has died: The Sci-Fi Channel. Now, I realize it's been dying for a while when its life support (BSG and Stargate) were taken away, but I figured they would have some new program to pair with Dr Who's next season. Apparently "Syfy" is supposed to be less restrictive in the channel's broadcasting... because apparently WWE, Ghost Hunters, and "Bad"-rated movies wasn't able to fill their lineup enough... I recall paying extra for the extended channel package to receive a handfull of channels to include SciFi, but I've been leaning more toward not having cable at all since I usually just watch enough TV at work, but this is yet another reason to go in and cancel it I think. Thoughts, additional rants of pissed off fans, etc?
Those kinds of channels of been going steadily downhill for years. Ever since the reality TV explosion. They figer why spend 500 grand or a mill on a show that only a couple million people are going to watch when you can pop out a reality show every week for 50-100 grand and have 20 million soccer moms and teen aged girls watch it. Most of who can drag their boy friends and husbands in to at least sitting in front of the TV so they get to count them as viewers too even if they aren't watching it. (numbers pulled out of my ass) Until this shit TV fad comes to an end there won't be any high budget scifi or even just good TV made. They don't need to right now. I mean really how many shows over the last 10 years have you really enjoyed I have one maybe two. Supernatural and thats pretty much it I watched Smallville mostly because its on the same night on the same channel as Supernatural. And to some extent Heroes but it jumps around too much and used time travel a little too often to be really good. And I would cancel my cable in an instant if they wouldn't charge me $20 any way if i want to keep my cable internet. Which with the bandwidth caps and rate hikes that keep coming I been giving some very serious thought to getting rid of any way.
well, even if my internet costing more wouldn't really hurt my wallet if i cancel tv... i figure i can just torrent good shows anyway
I don't want to watch Brooke Hogan, thanks! I can't believe how much TV is dedicated to "reality" shows. For every Chuck there are 5 Quest for Love with Tequila Michaels Osbournes out there. Sheesh! I never really watched Sci-Fi/SyFy channel, but I have actually caught on to watching Warehouse 13. Too early to say it'll be must see TV, but it is something until the fall shows come back.
to sound "less geeky" apparently. and the reaction is WTF. their attempt to broaden the viewer base alienated most. enough to not watch? probably not if they have good programing beyond the B (at best) rated movies that they air. I'll check out Warehouse 13, but I'm currently thinking I'll drop cable completely... though i'll probably consult the football schedule to see if there's any of my school's games i'd miss out on cause of it first (and i leave the land of big sky and many cows next year anyway)
I have this very strong suspicion that if this were the fall and I was getting a steady dose of new Chuck, Heroics, Big Bang Theory, and How I Met Your Mother - I wouldn't even be thinking about Warehouse 13. It's all there is at the moment.
Yea, I've stopped watching Sci-Fi since they canceled both SG series and BSG. At least the BBC is still putting out some decent tv while we're in a season of reruns. Check out a mini-series called Torchwood if you get a chance.
yeah... i was pissed they made the entire 3rd season into a 5 day miniseries... also, SG-U coming this fall
Wharehouse 13 and Eureka are all that's worth watching on the syfy channel ATM. Personally, I don't care for the name change, a stupid carebear version. I do agree that most TV has turned to shit with all the excessive amount of reality shows. When stations like NBC cancel a deep, intriguing show like Kings, I have no hope for TV minus the few shows spread across all the chanels worth watching. Thankfully there is hulu so I can watch these few good shows whenever I want.
shows Something I've found myself watching alot of lately is "Leverage" and "Dark Blue" I was a lil bitter when SciFi changed their name...kind of takes away from the whole science fiction part of it now that it's SyFy...
