I just bought a new rig for SWTor... actually, it will be about to run anything for several years to come. Sadly, I'll be lucky if it arrives before the 20th, so I'll be putting up with crappy FPS on my laptop for the first week or SWTor. But i'm Sooooo excited! I know people think Alienware is a money sink (and it really is), but for someone like me who needs a good warranty (3 years +accidental damage, in home next day service), I felt it was worth the extra expense. I just had to share because nobody in my life understands how someone could be so excited about a computer
LOL, congrats Kharma. If I had the money and didn't have a strange fascination with putting my own PC together...
This reminds me of needing an upgrade for Neverwinter Nights 2 because Obsidian managed to find a way to make simple graphics run slow.
@Sogetsu - I will post pics when it arrives... maybe I'll do a geeky unboxing video just because I can @Moneda - I would love to build my own, but I don't feel competent to do it and with my luck, I'd buy amazing parts that don't work together... so for me, it's best left to people who I can blame if something goes wrong. And more importantly, return it and get a new one
It's pretty simple these days long as you match your Motherboard and CPU most everything else is plug it in and go.
When it's time to go for my next one, I'll probably take a stab at it. In the mean time, I'm rather fond of the next day fixit service I get from dell... not to mention the accidental damage. According to the guy at Dell if I drop the thing and they can't fix it, they replace it. So I'm thinking that in 2.5 years, I'll give it a heave-ho and snag a new one for free
It is not always as simple as people make it out to be. Two huge issues as we go into winter for some areas is static electricity and as always plugging in the wrong case cables. Ie usb 2.0 and firewire, typically the firewire will fit in a usb 2.0 slot and if you power your computer on, bad news. So essentially it is easy for some but it can have some difficulty if you rush or you put together 5, ect.... It sometimes you overlook or rush and bork a board. Been there, done that, bought the tshirt.
Schematics that come with the motherboard are pretty easy to follow if you know how to read. If you actually read these instructions instead of just plugging stuff blindly into the MOBO, then it's easier than most people think. Biggest advantage? You can save huge chunks of cash by building your own.
My new baby was shipped today and the alienware rep called me to tell me that it would arrive before the end of the week. I'm soooo excited!
