So the Idris fundraising thread has brushed over ships being stolen and such. Can someone explain to me (or give me a link that will) how stealing ships will work? Can it be done? Like boarding and stuff? Is it permanent?
I haven't found much on it. As far as I can tell you can take any ship as long as you have access to the cockpit. Boarding will be done but I'm also unsure how.
Yes, you can permanently steal a ship. The one you stole from reports it as stolen and gets an insurance replacement. Insurance company flags the stolen ship's hull ID, and that ship becomes nearly unusable anywhere near police/military forces. You can find fake hull IDs on the black market that will undo this. Without some kind of proof of sale, you're not getting it insured though. Faking this situation and allowing a friend to steal your ship is likely to cause you to lose all insurance you had, including lifetime insurance, and become uninsurable.
Have they said anything about if you break the law with one character but that character dies. Will the insurance fraud stick with the account or die with the character? Piracy is a part of the game design and I'm excited to see how that develops. But having a ship stolen by a guildmate that you gave permission. While it's realistic seems to press the fun factor a bit.
Nice. So stolen ships really won't even be all that valuable for combat purposes I guess. At least not in comparison. I didn't know that about them never being insurable. It would be more interesting if you could fake a proof of sale too. I guess what they expect pirates to do is to just have a backup fleet of stolen ships rather than insuring. Which also makes some sense. "Reputation and faction alliances pass on to your new character, but slightly diminished. If your original character was a pirate, then the new one will also be aligned with pirates, but not as much and will still be on the UEE watch list. No slate will be wiped clean, but if you want to change your allegiances, this would be the start. This matches life, where the son of a criminal has to deal with the bias of people thinking he is going to be like his father, or a son of a cop is assumed to be on the side of law and order." From Death of a Spaceman
Insurance fraud is found by support, they're going to make your entire account uninsurable, not just the character. Don't try to game the system and it's not something to worry about.
OMG i am so damn excited for this game. it allows me to relive one of my gaming regrets. not sticking with eve from alphs phase to now. i am stoked to be on ground floor of a new space sim, one thats soo huge like this one. o yeah btw i applied for the user group so i could see the forums but not accepted yet
Now what if some jackass decides to attack me and fails miserably. I'd like to take that ship from them. Would the game still punish me? lol
There are a lot of details that aren't clear. But chances are, yes. Someone trying and failing to mug you doesn't give you permission to mug them.
We are gonna find something to do with my Cutlass. Someone is getting boarded and loosing something! We'll raid their fridge or something.
That just made me think of something, i wonder if they will add airlocks for larger ships so you can pretty much lock the door and vent the air to kill boarders if they dont own a suit, and maybe give boarders a tool to that can cut through doors.. feels more and more like a First person FTL....
