"Next year's Star Wars MMO, not being developed by BioWare or Sony Online Entertainment, will launch simultaneously for PC and consoles alongside the debut of the first Star Wars TV series in fall 2009, of which the storylines of the game will tie into. Those Artistic Lucases already have a second online title planned that I've heard has nothing to do with Star Wars." http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.com/ star wars TV show? the mmo will be based in the TV show? need to know what time period the show is in.. consoles and PC release at same time..that could be big. Its just a rumor. I don't spread rumors usually..but this is..wow. she also predicts star wars galaxies closing within a year of the new S.W. MMO.
after more searching..this looks like who will be making the next star wars mmo... ..look on the front page..the countdown timer with no name. That's the timer to the new Star wars mmo (announcment) I bet. http://crypticstudios.com/ "cryptic has a dynamic content system in the works that will allow the developer to spawn unique zones on the fly" Uh huh..for the new star wars mmo ..oh boy. while your there..look at Champions online mmo they have coming.
KOTOR MMO confirmed Bioware http://www.massively.com/2008/07/17/kotor-mmo-confirmed-by-electronic-arts/#comments
I'm hoping WAR will keep me occupied for a long time. But Bioware is a kickass company and I will be following it closely. If they can make the game as immersive as SWG was, with a solid pvp experience, I will definately play it. /prays for a TKM class
Cryptic is a good company. I liked city of heroes despite the grind fest. Champions promises more action than CoH so we'll see if that has endless amounts of pointless grinding to it. I'll pass on Star Wars though since it takes place between episodes three and four. It still has the unclean vibe attached to it. I know MMO is the big money market right now, but with so many MMOs popping up I can't see many subscribers to each and every one. Why can't they just make a "game" game? Something with a goal obtainable within 40-80 hours.
Problem with "game" game is that w/o an online component most games won't do well now-a-days. Of course, there are exceptions, but online components basically guarantee more sales.
http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/03/star-trek-onlin.html "After the collapse of Star Trek Online developer Perpetual Entertainment last year, most thought we'd heard the last of the game, at least until recently when the game's official site was mysteriously updated with a new logo and the words "Coming Soon." Attempts to trace the site's current owner have been unsuccessful, leading many to wonder who exactly is updating the site and presumably continuing work on the game itself. Despite a complete lack of solid information, many believe Cryptic Studios, developers of City of Heroes and the upcoming Champions Online, to be the most likely new developer. Game|Life contacted Cryptic earlier this morning for any sort of confirmation on the rumors, but the firm refused to confirm or deny the allegations." Star trek or star wars..this will be interesting to see which comes out on top. Champions online mmo looks cool too... http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/06/champions-onlin.html
I'd like to see a decent star trek mmo to be honest. There is alot of room to play in that universe depending on what time period they pick. I am leary of any star wars mmo.. sorry, galaxies scarred me for life And ya Champions does look good... but I am a comic book geek and played on the rp server for CoH.. ya fear my geekness
If you are talking about Tyrael from the Diablo series then who doesn't think he is sweet? The dude is a beast and has tentacle like wings. Also, his sword throwing skills are top notch. : P Anyways, on topic: I don't know enough about Star Trek to say anything important about it, but a Star Wars MMO could be cool, only problem is everyone would want to be a jedi and they will most likely be massively overpowered. : P Also, they would have to pick a time period where there are lots of jedi, so it isn't ridiculous, and my understanding is that between 3-4 is not that time.
