https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link//13126-Grace-Period-Update For those who haven't seen this game, look into it before reading the rest of this For those that have (and those that just looked into it), the window for getting LTI on your ships closes this Saturday @ midnight PST. Additionally, 7 different ships become unavailable at that time. Just a couple quick FAQs, Spoiler Lifetime insurance is the same as regular insurance, but regular insurance must pay an in-game upkeep fee. Lifetime insurance only covers the base model of the ship, so any upgrades or cargo have to be insured separately by normal means. All the ships that can be pledged for can be gained in-game. Just because you got the bigger ship doesn't mean you can beat someone better than you. This game is the opposite of pay to win. It's pay to avoid time investment, nothing more. The game will have both a unified server like EVE and it will also support privately run servers. There is no publisher. Chris Roberts has repeatedly said a good game comes before profits when he's in charge (and he is!). I've currently got the Rear Admiral package that includes a Constellation and also have bought a 325a Interceptor to fly when I don't have a crew. Between the two I'm in for $320 already. Blondie has the same pairing. That said, I'm thinking the Starfarer will be extremely worthwhile to have LTI on as it'll be a huge target for pirates. If we're going to do this game as XOO, we're going to need to save our in-game cash for a Corvette to lead our fleet until we can afford/steal a carrier, so getting the costs of a Starfarer, which can make a lot of money as a trading ship (it does normal cargo in addition to fuel) and if we're going as a group we'll have the assets to protect one early on. But I'm expecting insurance on a ship of that size to not be cheap, so the reality that we might not be able to protect it might slow our progress towards the bigger ships. If I had the option to, I'd melt my Constellation into a Starfarer as they're both $225 ships, but if I melted the Rear Admiral package I'd lose all the bonuses from it including the alpha/beta access and collector's edition and I can't melt just the Constellation since it's part of the package. The 325a will remain available so I could rebuy it in a few months, so if anyone is up for pitching in to split the costs of a Starfarer for XOO, I'm willing to put in my $70 from the 325a towards it. Anyone interested and is anyone actively talking about setting up a XOO division for Star Citizen?
I would never pay $225 for a digital starship in a game that isnt even out and I havent ever played. Still, I am interested in the game. I just wont drop that much money on it without playing first.
Well, the Digital Mercenary Package is $40 and comes with an LTI Aurora as well as the full game and Alpha/Beta access. As for the game itself, I managed to sell my LOTRO account for $1400, I think I can at least manage that for an account in what should be the game of the decade if I end up not liking it.
I'm really looking forward to this game. Right now I have the Colonel package which includes the Hornet fighter. I'm thinking about picking up a trading ship though.
Blake, I don't think a single person in XoO knows me as Blondie =X On the real subject, I love this game without ever playing it. Even if it's a shit version of the X games (which is almost impossible imo) it'll still be the game I play for a long time to come.
Pool together for a Starfarer? What do you want to do? The 350r is 90% for racing, it's got a reduced cargo hold and loadout, while the 325a will be used for combat.
The 325a can be upgraded to be faster, but it can't be upgraded to 350r speed. The 350r is a modified chassis for a dual-thruster engine.
Hmmm....let me look my shit up. I know I threw in on Kickstarter for like $60-$75 and then bumped it up to get a bronze(?) SC ID Card. I'm somewhere in that Bounty Hunter/Smuggler/IHaveNoFuckingClue realm. BBL... EDIT: Freelancer LTI, lifetime insurance, no hangar fees on home planet, about 7000 credits, repair bot, plus a bunch of RL Schwag. I'll let you space cowboys play shoot 'em up; I'm going the explorer/trader/smuggler/ARRRRRRRRRR Route
Starfarer Tanker is $175 (EDIT: Lifetime Insurance Included - Base Model) Constellation is $225 As far as a SC XoO Division goes...we should just play the game and let it work itself out, else we risk going down the black toilet hole of divisions past.
Huh, I was certain they were the same yesterday... Only $105 to upgrade my 325a is tempting, I'd rather split it with someone though. Fair enough.
Where do you guys see the ship stats etc.? I haven't been following this game enough, and I'm a little ashamed, seeing as I'm what they consider an "original backer". :/
It's scattered through various places, but the wiki has everything announced. http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
So will this game have noob flight controls like in Freelancer. With mouse control and you being able to toggle your speed by just hitting some key. Or is this one of those that you need 3 years of flight school and a pro joystick just to be able to take off planet. Is this MMO? If so, why are those ships so damn expensive?
@Doxy: the ships are "expensive" because the money is going to fund the development of this game. Think of it as a donation with a reward. You give "X" amount towards development, you get "Y" in return when game reaches launch. Mr. Roberts has specifically stated you are not paying to win here, you are paying to get ahead i.e. buying time by being able to start with these ships. They are all ships you can earn/purchase/steal in the game with enough time and effort put in.
Tieing a space ship to the kind of sub that you buy kind of sounds like buying your way to power in a sense. I know that they said its going to be skill based not based on the kind of ship you have but it sure will make things alot easier to have a better ship (think of it as the death star going against a tie fighter). The idea of playing a game like Freelancer in an MMO universe that you have the power to change (first person to visit new places gets that place named after them) sounds pretty cool though. Space sims are usually pretty niche though, look at Eve Online.
Well yes. But *everything* can be gained in game. There is no paywall. EvE has the same concept with being able to turn real world money into in-game currency, and I've never heard anyone call EvE P2W. Additionally, ship combat is only part of the game, trading/crafting/exploration/FPS boarding combat/smuggling all are getting decent attention to be viable playstyles. EvE may be niche, but 500k subs is nothing to scoff at, and Star Citizen has zero interest in going after WoW or even SWTOR in size. They have yet to take private investment and they're delaying doing so until it's absolutely necessary. If they get the crowdfunding up to $20million USD, they won't have to take *any* private investors, meaning no one invested in the project did so with profits in mind.
