    Wait, how do you have a socket P processor? I thought your motherboard was socket 775?


    Also, that CPU looks nasty. You do need to clean it up...

    It's a laptop processor I pulled from a laptop. I'd be in trouble if I was using that on my Asus!!

    Many people dont know this, but the proper amount of thermal paste is about the size of a grain of rice. In the case of a CPU with no IHS, you probably only want half a grain size dot. Once spread over the core, the thermal paste should be barely visible it is so thin. The purpose of the paste is to get in the tiny microscratches between the core/IHS and the heatsink. Having a blob like that impedes thermal performance due to excessive paste between the contact surfaces.
