I have a Toshiba Satellite C655. And most of you know when you buy a pre-build desktop or laptop it usually comes with that companies software. I hate having useless software on my computer I'm never going to use. I know I can delete it through my Control Panel, but someone mentioned that if I did it it could affect my computer; make it crash, not work properly, etc. But I don't know if I believe the source of this, I've tried finding things online but nothing. So can anyone answer it? Is it just useless software I can delete, or will it end up doing something to my computer to make sure i don't delete it. Please help.
If it's a plain jane laptop, you can remove everything if you have the drivers on hand. If you have anything fancy, like a tablet, then you might have issues. If it's like most laptops these days, it has a backup image on a separate partition in case you mess it up bad. Try making a list of what software you're thinking about deleting, and if it sounds important, you should keep it if you're not sure. Posting the list here might help with that.
You can remove the companies crap software without problems. THe only time you would have problems on things like tablets when removing things is if you remove Microsoft drivers for stuff like touch capabilities. But removing junky software doesnt cause problems. In fact the software being there could cause even more problems. Just be sure you get rid of it completely as since it junk software it is often written bad anyway and doesnt remove all of its components and leaves random registry keys still there. Use a program like Final Uninstaller to get rid of everything associated with the junk programs. I can get it to you for free if you want it. One thing you should really try out is make a backup image of the system so you can get back to its factory state easily, with Norton Ghost or something similar. Then install Kubuntu 10.04 on your new netbook, and then update it to KDE 4.5.1. They even have a specific netbook version of the KDE environment. Check out some images and video of what it could be like: http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.5/plasma.php and a video of it in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIys5hO6cYk Great for impressing friends, doing school work, great for internet use, and playing music and such. Pretty m uch the only thing you cant do really well on it is play your video games. It does have some, but you cant use your regular Windows games on it. Which since its a netbook then you shouldnt have gotten it for gaming use anyway so it shouldnt be an issue.
If you're only removing programs that you know what they are, then you'll be fine. Pretty much anything in the programs list can be recovered too. If you're unsure about particular programs, post the name and any other information shown.
