Because apparently it's a more efficient way to type.
    ...SO STRANGE.

It will take a whiile to get used to it,they say...but after you do, it will be worth it. I imagine that our kids may be dealing with the key arrangements like this in the future?

Oh man...that would be really strange if you had to use QWERTY keyboards at work and then your Dvorak at home. I typo enough just using one type of keyboard. I'm not sure I could ever make the adjustment to switch back and forth between two! LOL

Do let us know what you think of it once you get used to it, though!

I have a friend who uses a dvorak for everything. He says his words per minute doubled when he got used to it.

    I'M TRYING.

    Yes I'm using it now.

From reading the wiki and stuff it does seem that it would be way more efficient and less fatiguing than a qwerty, which is pretty awesome when you consider how many people who sit at a computer all day get carpal tunnel or just have aching hands in general.

lol.. or just switch your hotkeys to the where they "were" on qwerty and just put them on the new one.

your hands will still "remember" where your hotkeys "were" and such wouldn't be such a big problem imo.

Freaking awesome. I've known about dvorak keyboards for a long time, but never got motivated enough to relearn how to type for various reasons (primarily that I use more than one computer on a regular basis). The boost to wpm would be awesome, but I'm not sure I can think fast enough to compose that many wpm and still be coherent XD

I'm curious to know how long it takes to adjust to the new layout, and if you can tell a difference with it being "easier to type"?

I just got it today so... not yet. xD
It's a larger adjustment than people realize.

Well I know it'd be a huge adjustment for me, I've been touch-typing since sophomore year of high school so... at least 10 years, and I type a good 60 wpm generally, so I'd be really frustrated with trying to relearn how to type that fast with a new setup... would want some kind of typing tutor program.

If you find anything like that let me know, and I may take one of my old keyboards, rearrange the letters, and change the keyboard layout in my OS settings just to try it out :)

I don't get it. It's just another keyboard. Isn't your typing related to your co-ordination? Basically the faster you move your hands and are able to properly PRESS A BUTTON, then the faster you can get the WORD out.

If it's all that great, I might try one out.
