About open source, particularly Android, and how "open-source" it really is.
    here

I can see how this would make one agree, especially when you compare market to market with apps and such..however, I'm not sure why they're throwing Eclipse in there as an open source project to compare Android to...A java developing environment != mobile phone os.. or am I wrong?

I think you're right in that they are not the same thing, but the article doesn't seem to be focusing on operating systems (even though both Android and Linux are in there).

What they seem to be comparing is how the projects relate to the general public in terms of how easy it is to integrate into them (on a business and information level).

I only skimmed the report, but I dont see how they can rate Android like that. With ROM source available for the stock Gingerbread, and being available to everyone. Stock kernel source being open to anyone, large companies like Samsung and HTC releasing their custom kernel sources for many different phones, companies giving unlocked bootloaders for phones, and even at times giving out their proprietary ROM code, I really dont see how anyone could possibly rate Android as the least open source.

android > all other cell phone open source projects..
but like what Daru said, it was more for the "general public" integration into it..
That's what I found interesting, why the general public thinks Android is least open source has me...
And yeah, if they're comparing to general public..I don't see the everyday pc user booting up Eclipse...
