Hey guys, I've been on a bit of a nostalgia trip lately due to the current state of most MMO/FPS titles out these days. I played PS2 with XoO a few years back and had a great time, but for whatever reason PS2 just didn't have the same appeal as the original. Maybe I've just gotten older, and when Planetside came out in 2003 I was in 10th grade and had little to think about besides girls and videogames. Nowadays nothing really grabs me the way that game did. I find myself going on youtube and looking up old videos that recapture those glory years, especially now that the game is officially dead. As some of you know/remember, XoO had some of the best footage of Planetside 1 early on, produced by Miir (Malvision). I think the first video or two were actually from the beta, and that footage (I believe) served as some of the best promotional footage that game ever saw. Leading up to the launch in May of 2003, I didn't have a system capable of running Planetside 1, and it's super demanding specs like over 500mb of RAM or a 128mb graphics card. Eventually I did get a decent rig and played mostly with the 666th on NC Markov. I also got involved on some of Malvision's Planetside-based productions (which SOE supported, granting admin abilities to a few players on the PTS), and "appeared' in the Shadow of Auraxis trailer, which is still on youtube, and one of the coolest things to ever come out of that game. To me, anyway. When Planetside 1 went F2P, I think sometime in the 2011-2012 period, a good group of XoO players got on for some good ol' large scale operations, and I was around for a few of them. I remember being part of a huge Magrider column that wrecked havoc for a good while until ultimately getting blown up by a ton of NC BFRs. I also remember a little while later that someone recorded it and hosted it here, if I'm not mistaken. It was perhaps the last classically great Planetside experience I had, before seemingly everyone left for good. I'd log in occasionally, years later, only to find one or two people on a server, finding where they were on the continent, running around by themselves, and then kill them, and log off. Ultimately I just wanted to see if anyone here has any of those videos saved, and would be willing to share. A lot of the old stuff on youtube is in 240p, due to the limitations of youtube back in 07-08 but also downloading them from official hosting either here or PSU and re-encoding them using bad compression. The magrider thing was probably less than five years ago, and was on the XoO site, so I feel like someone would probably have that saved somewhere. The Malvision stuff is different but I sorta kept in touch with Miir over the years so I could ask him for that directly. Also as an aside: there is an active community working to restore Planetside 1 as a grassroots thing outside of SOE/DBG, and though there aren't a whole lot of people working on it now, they are dedicated and are making progress. Check it out at psforever.net
Good times indeed. PS1 was the mother game for Xen of Onslaught. We can ask the man himself. Calling @Miir
I wish I had screenshots from PS1. I remember rushing an amp station with like 100 other maxes sprinting over a hill from the tower lol.
Btw Que, I have a whole new appreciation for your name after watching the Next Generation marathon the past couple months. I had seen the original but not The NExt Generation, Q was hysterical. @Que
I put together this crappy video during our 2011 stint. FYI, there's a Planetside 1 private server in the works. Currently, you're able to download the client and run around the game world. Network issues being worked on.
Good times for sure. I ran into xen playing in PS1 and ran with them for a week or so and then joined xoo in 2003. Then SWG came out and I was guild leader on Sunrunner for 4 or 5 years and still played PS1 too.

PS1 >>>>> PS2. I have not footage but I share the sentiment. I loved that game. cool people are working on it unofficially
The absolute best of times. The pinnacle of my gaming career, and I was only 17 when I joined (I'm 34 this year). I literally think of those times weekly.
Man, I've been having some serious nostalgia lately. Don't know how many of you guys still remember me, but I was there from the beginning in the PS 1 days. Still the most fun I've ever had gaming. Downloaded Planetside 2 the other day for the hell of it and it was actually pretty fun even though it's an old game at this point. Anybody still play? I'd be sweet to get a small squad together and tear shit up like we used to!
You could check out the Discord, it is a little more active than here these days. The community is old enough to be put in a senior's home (at least I feel like that now). : P
