Fun! Lots of interest for only the first two days of open beta. Unfortunately, this means they have implemented a queue to get in to the server, but once you are in you are free to play for as long as you want. Basically Quake played out of a webbrowser using plugins. If you enjoy playing Quake, then you'll enjoy this. There are a few glitches in getting the game to load and display correctly... for me, the screen would just go gray. Then when I finally fixed this, the mouse wouldn't bind to the game window. Once I fixed all of this and got into the game, though, everything seems to run flawlessly. Lots of possibilities... sounds like they are going to do live stat tracking to match you with people of equivalent skill level. Check it out here: http://www.quakelive.com
yeah I was in closed beta, but never got around to playing, as I had too much trouble with the thing in the first place... I might try it again...
The game is essentially Quake 3 with more maps and live stat tracking (though the stat tracking is disabled for now). As a side note, when the game is released, it will be free to play. id (the makers of Quake) is going to host all servers, and will make money by charging monthly fees to people who wanted servers for themselves. In addition, they are going to insert ads in the game... so far I've only noticed one, and it is not in the way and doesn't interfere with gameplay at all.
yeah, I think I will give it a go again tonight or something... see if I can get it to work this time.
