Found this interesting nuggut a few minutes ago. I'll let you all discuss what you think.

At some point you’ll just have to trust us on some of this stuff. We have to protect our sources to keep them from being fragged by their employers or associates.

A very good and anonymous source tells us that Halo 4 is already in full development over at Bungie. I wish to God She/He/It had more details to share but at this point all She/He/It can confirm for sure is that Halo 4 is an official project being developed by Bungie, at this very moment.

With more than 20 million copies of Halo 3 sold worldwide, I know it’s a no-brainer that the series would continue somehow. It’s nice to get this sort of reassurance from a source who has never been wrong for us before.

If we get more details, we’ll share them. If She/He/It is wrong… They’ll be quietly disposed of.

    *******LATER*******

Now our source is really sticking her/his/its neck out.

As we told you earlier, our inside woman/man/thing got hold of some pretty exciting news.

News that Bungie was already hard at work developing what will be Halo 4.

Now we’re told that this will be announced officially at E3.

The prior news was probably like a weatherman predicting a hurricane “sometime somewhere.” This starts the ticking clock for what would end up being a pretty big deal.

    Halo 4. E3.

    Stand by.

I'll be keeping an eye on this story in the coming days. Remember that E3 is July 11th-13th

Who would think they would develop another game that would sell millions? I really hope this is wrong because I wanted to see Bungie try something new. But Halo is good also.

    When is E3 anyways?

This of course could all be linked to Peter Jackson's Halo Project that no ones anything about - Halo Chronicles.

Just from the pic I thought it was a joke, but seems legit. Ill stay tuned to G4 when they do their coverage because they all like Halo over there and I'm sure will have a big thing on it if its true.

I'll be all over my sites for the E3 coverage. I'll be making an official E3 Announcement thread a day or two before the event to use for it.

Your missing something important here. Microsoft, not Bungie, owns the rights to Halo. Therefore, Bungie cant be developing a new Halo because they are no longer a part of Microsoft Games studios.

I wouldn't be suprised, however, if a new Marathon game is in development by Bungie. There have been rumors that they would like to revisit the series.

    Right and wrong.

On the split between Bungie and Microsoft, Bungie is still a Limited-Liability Company. What this means is even though they are independent, and Microsoft does in fact own the Halo IP, Microsoft still holds a minority stake in Bungie LLC and still partners with them. Bungie has also said, and I quote:

Well we are already at work on another Halo game -- I wouldn't call it "Halo 4", but it is based in the Halo Universe and represents a collaboration between Bungie and Peter Jackson. Halo 3 was definitely not the last Bungie Halo game.

Very little is known about Halo: Chronicles, other than it will be an episodic game series. Bungie is collaborating with Wingnut in the creation of Chronicles, and are still assisting in Halo Wars with Ensemble Studios. So while Bungie isn't the sole developer of these games, they still have a large say in it's development.

Finally, Frank O'Connor mentioned back on April 25th the following:

Bungie will, however, continue to remain very much involved in multiple aspects the Halo Universe as part of our ongoing relationship with Microsoft.
Meanwhile, we're damn busy ourselves with a variety of projects underway within the studio including one that you'll be hearing more about in the very near future. Now that we control our own destiny we also have other longer term, top secret plans afoot. The wait for that may be a tad longer though.

And lets not forget. Anyone who has played Halo 3 knows that it isn't the end of the story of Master Chief. No game series ends like that. Bungie has stated that Halo 3 ended the Halo Story Arc. Does that mean there will be a Halo 4? Thats up for interpretation. However that doesn't mean there won't be more Halo's in the future, especially those that follow a more specific storyline; like where Master Chief was headed and what that large planet (Onyx?) was at the end of Halo 3.

Could Halo: Chronicles be the big "Halo 4" announcement Sarcastic Gamer was referring to? I wouldn't doubt it much as I can't see an out-of-nowhere Halo 4 announcement in a week. However they did seem pretty adamant about a game being developed by Bungie, not Wingnut Interactive or some partnership between them. But we might finally know wtf Chronicles is, as Episode 1 is supposed to be released this year - As well as Halo Wars.

Reading this, I feel like I made one fucking awesome news article.

If it helps...I'm actually a writer. I write Short Stories (working on getting one published) as well as Game Reviews for local newsletters and publications.

    Anyway...Back on topic =P

I would expect them to milk this series for everything it's possibly worth.

I still haven't beaten the first two (fuck you, zerg-flood...). I don't even own any of them.
    I want to, but damn.

Yea I think at E3 it would be more realistic if they released more information on what Halo: Chronicles really is instead of a out o fthe blue Halo 4 announcement. I bet in some peoples eyes Halo: Chronicles is Halo 4 just because it continues the story line. I really hate these kinds of guess stuff before its announced because then you can get all hyped up about on game and then when its something else its like Crap. Luckily that didn't happen with Diablo 3.

So apparently it's becoming more and more likely that some new Halo game will be announced. But not having Master Chief? I suppose the guy deserved a vacation anyhow.

I'm really happy for all of you guys, this sounds like a really big thrill.
Sorry but honestly I personally got sick of Halo just when Halo 2 was coming out, and it's been a long time since I looked forward to something Bungie put out.

Is there any reason for a gamer not at all interested in the same old to look forward to Halo 4?

It could be an Arbiter storyline instead of following Master Chief for now, while he is still lost. Maybe that would be how the game ends, finding Master Chief or for a cliff hanger, the Arbiter floating off to the same planet that Master Chief was.

Then thats proof. This E3 announcement is Halo: Chronicles. Halo: C does not contain Master Chief to my recollection.

What is revealed about the Halo: Chronicles storyline? Who does it follow when is it? I haven't really heard much about it so I have no idea what it even is.
