I go to a techie high school, so even thought I hope to see posts here i will be asking around. I know that u can overclock ur processor on a computer tower, but I was wondering if there was any way to do it on a laptop. I was also wondering what the pros vs cons are of doing it... i.e. comp blowing up vs running faster. If someone could post a reply about this, Id appreciate it :D Also, if someone could also tell me how to overclock it on a PC, since I dont know how to do that either :p

the con is always the risk of overheat and damage.

pro is the possible faster operation of something for the period of time that its not overheating

overall, not a huge advantage and not something you can cool to compensate for in a typical laptop unless you have a freezer for a cooling pad

OCing is something that sadly takes weeks to finish and isn't something that can be run through over forum chat. Each computer is different.

It also tends to lower the life span of the cpu some times as much as 3/4 depending on how fast you overclock them whether for laptop or desktop.
The only people that find overclocking to be economical are people that are going to go buy the newest hardware every year any way. You can only really tell if its better most of the time is on benchmarks in real world gaming you only end up with a few extra FPS maybe if your lucky.

p.s. WOW has sucked me in again and its like 5am now so please forgive any spelling grammar and such.

So in closing overclock only if you can afford to replace the part your overclocking and mostly only if you care what some program tells you how big your ummm comp is.

Yes I ramble when I'm tired ..... so what! ....and I get grumpy.... well grumpier.

Only overclock if you really need it.As far as your hardware is giving you solid fps , you dont need to do so.As for notebooks i wouldnt reccoment to overclock as most of the notebook are just simply not build for that and the final effect could have been somewhere about 3 to 10 percents tops [on a high end laptops].And considering hardware load after overclocking in avarage of 5 percents isnt worth the risk of loosing your laptop.

As for a towers you can pretty much squeeze a lot from it.
As you can get with experienced OCing somewehre about 20percent of total performance.
If you can OC your proccesor using bios , set up your memory , slightly lift up input power and mess with your graphic card you can get pretty much very nice performance grow. Some of the new motherboards use utilities wich allowes you to OC straight from your OS.Altough this requieres bit of knowledge and a lot of testing.Again for someone useless , some will be happy about few extra FPS.My own experience is that you can run OCed machine pretty much forever if you do not OCit brutally. If you got quality components you dont have to be scared to squeeze a liter extra juice out of your machine.Altough if your running what you need lagless i would advice you not to overclock unless its really needed.
