My Anti-Virus is always on, but for some reason browsing through the web today, all of a sudden I can't bring up FireFox or any of my antivirus programs. This win 7 Antivirus 2012 bullshit keeps popping up and I can see the Script profiler trying to run in task manager, but it will not let me open anything up at all.

I received no notifications about anything being installed, I was looking at the homeless pictures that kav posted next thing I know bam FireFox crashes and I am lucky to even get Chrome up and running.

    Help?

    1) Why do you still use firefox? Its not 2005
    2) Do you have malware bytes installed?
    3) Do you have microsoft security essentials installed?

1.) I like it.. Chrome was pissing me off
2.) yes, wouldn't allow me to open the program
    3.) Maybe?

I think I have gotten it fixed now, but any suggestions for virius/malware protection besides Malwarebytes would be essential. I really need to clean up crap on my computer also.

Sacrifice two small goats before you tower and then reformat.

I always tell people to reinstall Windows when this happens. It takes too long and is too much work for me to type out all the stuff you would do to fix this problem.

Agreed. and its not really something that has a quick prescription, either. Every case is slightly different and it can get kinda messy in a forum format. Just blow away your computer and start over is the forum answer of least consequence.

Lesson learned: back yo' shiz up, foo'! Redundantly, fo' sho'!! - sorry too much coffee.

I recommend ghosting once a month at the minimum anyway and keeping 2-3 months of backups on a 2nd drive for issues just like this.

I use ghost with regular backups. When this crap happens, I roll back to install fresh install bliss in 8 minutes.

    zing!!1

I actually went the backup image route with my hackintosh setup back when I was interested in macs and learning how to use them effectively. Its such a pain in the ass to get those systems going, I used an image of a perfectly installed new system to recover or start over. When the shit hit the fan, just image it back to fresh install. It worked like a charm. I kept the image on a special partition on an external drive. But that took like 45 minutes to load in... not 8 minutes.
