The Question is, are OCZ's agility series as bad as the vertex series? Did they ever fix the issues with the vertex series? The real question is have the sandforce controllers improved yet? Forgot to mention, the deal is on newegg, starts at 10:00 PST http://www.newegg.com/Special/Shell...c=EMC-SD122011-_-SD120911-_-item-_-singleitem
Yeah, they're fixed. Gotta update the firmware and can't use a Marvell SATA controller, though. I can't say for 100% certain about the Agility and Vertex series, as I'm using the Force GT, but my expectations are that they'll pull an easy sustain of 300 or so MB/S no problems at all.
im fine with updating the firmware on it. the price is pretty good (mail in rebate though) and i have an intel sata controller (gigabyte GA-X48-DS5 mobo). Newegg is scaring the shit out of me with the return for exchange only part though. Really want to be able to just dump it if i have issues with it.
If you have issues with it and the product is EOL then OCZ will give you a "comparable" product from whatever current gen they are on. I had an OCZ Summit die on me and got a Vertex 2 as a replacement. Not thrilled about the Sandforce controller but the drive itself is twice as fast as the one I had bought. Talk to Ryder directly if you can as he pushes things through very fast if you get on him about it. Tony is really cool too but he isnt really in the RMA department stuff.
The Sandforce issue was fixed Oct 17 according to this: http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/f...-this-thread-for-questions-and-all-discussion. All the reviews you see pre-Oct 17th are inaccurate regarding BSOD, failures, etc. Personally I think it's a good deal. If you can't do anything with it, you can still pawn it off on craigslist, probably for more than you paid, and get the rebate back at the same time. Not much to be afraid of, imo =p
I like the new vertex 3 drives but if you want a fast and reliable drive id tell you to go with the samsung 830 series or the hyper X. They are way better then the ocz by far.(exept the max iops vertex 3).
