http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news...enver-cpu-puts-the-nail-in-wintels-coffin.ars Not much released about it yet but it sounds interesting.
Ya it does sound interesting, especially since it will probably be used as a product for running Windows. Microsoft announced they are making the full version of WIndows work with ARM processors. So this will be cool as Qualcomm can use its Quad core processors in laptops and such as well. I think this has HUGE potential for Nvidia. As Nvidia is highly experienced at massively parallel architecture designs, it would be great to see if Nvidia could release something like a 20 core ARM A15 processor to run Windows with. The ARM processor design is far more efficient than x86 processors as well so my guess is power consumption would be hardly anything at all.
With some of the other wink wink announcements at CES so far I think I may just wait another year before I get a new comp. I think we maybe getting another big sift in hardware again soon from big box comps to something the size of a small console like the Wii. with modular parts most of it on a single cpu size chip.
http://xi3.org/index.php Not really what I'm thinking since its just redesigned current hardware but likely where the industry is headed or at least something similar.
I'm happy that nVidia has long term projects out of the graphics card business, because with the advent of AMD's APU (combining CPU + GPU), the market is headed towards a severe shift. And since they stopped making chipsets, a decline in graphics card could have been very bad for them. And this is a just return for Intel's agressivity towards nVidia. And another nail in the x86 coffin. Can't wait to say good bye to this piece of crap architecture.
All of this will be obsolete in 10 yezrs anyway when Quantum computers come out ok, maybe 15 years. Either way, none of these major companies will probably survive that shift.
