Please post whatever geek toys you get for Xmas here, also include your first impressions of the device if you could. Especially if it's first gen tech!
Reserved. : ) But no really, we are hoping to get an iPad, but rumors have it they are releasing an iPad2 next spring - so we will have to see.
The Nook: I specifically didn't want a color one as it would be difficult to read outdoors, which is where I like to read. First impressions are... just... I love this thing.
The Nook looks awesome, my Aunt got a Kindle and its pretty neat. Let me know how you like it (or not - hopefully you do though). I thought this thread at first (btw) was about XoO themed gadgets that Van had made to sell, that would be neat - yes?
Well I got the Audio-GD "FUN" for myself. It is a high end DAC unit (sound card) and it sounds absolutely amazing. http://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/Headphoneamp/FUN/FUNEN.htm I also got an external DVD writer since I ran out of SATA ports on my motherboard and was unable to use a DVD writer for a long time because of it. I got some other random things. And I also got a 40" 1080p LED-LCD TV to use as a computer monitor. I am not usually one for LED TVs as they usually dont have proper color and contrast. I am more of a plasma person. Nothing can beat a good plasma. But for a computer monitor and with how much web surfing I have been doing lately, I just had to get an LCD so I dont have to worry about any burn-in on a plasma. Burn-in isnt really an issue anymore for normal use or gaming, but when you have a web browser sitting on the screen for 5 hours straight almost every day I might have to start worrying about burn-in with a plasma. Thus I got this instead:
Are those Audio Technica head phones? I just bought a pair and waiting for them to arrive. Also with that Dac do you run a amp or just the dac?
They are modified Sennheiser PC350s. They sounds really good now, but I only run them for the microphone. The DAC has a built in very good headphone amp along with the DAC. Its a preamp/dac/head amp combo. And a very nice one at that. I actually told some people at work 3 years ago I wished that we could control the volume by adjusting the amps instead of voltage because turning voltage down can greatly change the sound. The other sound guys laughedand said it cant be done like that. Now here we are 3 years later and many high-end units are doing just what I wished for because it sounds better That is one reason I bought this DAC, it has amperage volume control. In addition to being the best sounding DAC under $1000.
Best DAC UNDER $1000, the version A (better version) costs only $345 (plus $55 shipping) http://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/Headphoneamp/FUN/FUNEN.htm Although the op amps I have modded into it cost me $40 as well
