Just upgraded for GW2, making a checklist! I haven't got a new rig for the last... several years so I don't have a clear picture-- what's all the good programs to have on your computer now adays? MSE VLC -cccp CCClean Peerblock Spybot Process Exp Games =] Firefox -NScript -HTTPSE -Adblocker+ 7zip Driver Update TS Install What else?
Adobe Flash/Reader Gimp/Photoshop CPUID HWMonitor Dosbox Winamp/iTunes Skype Steam/Origin Video overclock utility like EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner Vuze
Chrome!! lol. Avast I like PUU.SH for quick upload of screen shots to IM to people. Filezilla for access to webspace.
Why use CCCP if you have VLC? VLC comes with its own pre-packaged codecs already that the program uses by default. There is no need to install other codecs if you are using VLC to play your media files
Adding gimp what version of ps would be good to get a "discount" on? ;] do i need avast if i have MSE? i use CCCP because back a few years I got my hands on some obscure OGM files and they didn't play-- that and my HD cam kicks out some wacky filetypes and i want to make sure it's the files that are bugging instead of the codecs
Aha, anything spectacular in terms of text-to-speech? I use it quite often and am running out of money =P
Last I knew Photoshop was up to 5.1CS Hanu.. Its sitting on my desktop right now and runs fine if you want that "discount"
CCleaner Avira Fileshredder Songbird Steam Java Adobe Flash Utorrent Damontools Diskeeper Fraps Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware MS Office 10 C++ redistributable 2005-2010 Thundrbird Nero Speccy TS3 Ventrillo UltraIso Winrar VLC player Don't forgot to install a real operating system on another partition like: Gentoo, Debian, Fedora, FreeBSD, or SuSe.
MSI Afterburner 2.2.0 Beta 10 and on has Fraps-quality recording and is for free. In regards to inexpensive Adobe Photoshop, the cheapest is here: http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=1259461011&ref_=pe_71120_23225510&fb_source=message And, in case you're wondering, Amazon does actually mail the academia version no questions asked. There's a lot of technical details that get confusing after a certain point anyway. What if you were a student, or will be a student, are an alumni, etc etc.
