Hello, i want to buy new hdd and for sometime i wonder whichone should i choose Seagate 500GB SATA300 (ST3500418AS) Barracuda 7200.12 16MB or WD Caviar 500GB SATA300 (WD5000AAKS) 16MB Tho maybe better to choose one with 32mb cache? Like: WD Caviar 500GB SATA300 (WD5000AADS) Green Power 32MB (lower power consumption) WD Caviar 500GB SATA300 (WD5001AALS) Black 32MB (dunno what this edition do probably something that fail anyway) or Seagate 750GB SATA300 (ST3750528AS) Barracuda 7200.12 32MB I don't see seagate 500gb with 32mb in my shop atm, that is series 12 coz i heard series 11 was/is very defective.
For gaming I would avoid any of the green WD drives because they're designed for low power consumption so they sacrifice performance. The WD Black drives are decent and 32MB of cache is good. And you're right about the Seagate 7200.11 drives, stick with the 7200.12 and you'll be good to go.
I personally like WD's quality over Seagate, i have 4x WD1001FALS running perfectly for years now, i'd go with the WD5001AALS as it has a tid bit better seek time.
WDC WD7501AALS 750gb black Work nice for now tho i have other question is that true that some (or all ?_?) intel mobo chipsets dont support UDMA 6? Coz i couldnt find answer and both my hhds work on UDMA 5 but can on 6. Well old hdd was crappy but this one could be even faster on 6 i think so. P.S. SSD maybe in 2 years =D this is my mobo
