I don't really know what's going on with my new computer now. When I first got it and tested WoW to see the FPS I was scaling over 55 fps all the time and 45-50 in full 25 man raids, especially in a hectic AV. Recently, I just noticed that my FPS dropped to 12-22 fps. What could be wrong? Spyware? Adware? Only thing I do on this PC is play WoW, homework, and watch some grey's anatomy episodes online ;o. If I have to, looks like I'd just do a complete system restore to the day I bought this thing.
How long have you had it? Check for virus's and the usual etc. And when was the last time you cleaned your computer? And by clean, I mean clean the inside of it.
Just got it in August 2008. Brand new laptop. Already did disc defrag before tonight's raid and I didn't see any major improvements, maybe +2-4 fps. During the actual raid on Kalcegos I was actually at 12-15fps which is a bit bad. I did a system restore to 8/31 and the FPS increased quite a bit, to 35-36fps. I honestly think its probably a spyware, so I'm going to download a few things and run them
Where do you get the episodes? If at all possible if you have another computer to do online things from you should format and reinstall on your gaming rig. Even if its like FOX or someone, one of the ads may have installed spyware. I cant see how it would eat at your framerate that dramatically though... You said its a laptop. Is this laptop from a retail store or custom built? Most laptops that ive bought retail come loaded with Junkware and one of those things might be causing the problem. If you have a clean copy of XP or Vista to install on your laptop, get the drivers from the manufacturer and do a clean install.
Did you change anything right before you noticed the drop (new hardware, new software, updates)? Did you make sure nothing is running in the background (turn off AIM, Steam, etc. to test)? Otherwise post a screen capture of task manager processes list like EF2 said. Might be able to pick something out of there.
It does. This is my laptop: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8934497&type=product&id=1215216330127 Go under specifications and see if its not a good gaming laptop =/. I dont necessarily download them, just buffer the video and let it stream. Its a website that I had to google for... but I bet its spyware because I've been on tons of websites trying to find season 1 episodes until I finally found one. Hijack this log is better imo: Download veohtv to stream some things, now its gone from the system restore. Don't use aim or msn. No torrents or p2p things. I'll post my dxdiag as well if someone who knows how to read it can. Here it is:... Thanks!
Website you had to google for... then its a very strong chance its spyware or a virus. -I dont see an antivirus software executable in the processes list from hyjack this. If you plan to do any internet surfing or in your case searching for grey's anatomy off of some random website then you should have it. The built in windows defender isn't good enough. -Google each one of the process names that are running that you can see in the task manager, and make sure you're viewing the processes for all users. You can also sort by CPU and Memory usage. Chances are whatever is eatin your wow framerate will be close to the top of the list in either of these two categories on the task manager. My basic moral of the story here is: Don't surf the internet from your gaming machine unless its the only one you have.
I get this same issue on occasion with my desktop running Vista. Basically I am cruising at 60FPS then it drops to like 10 for no reason when I transition. Basically I have to go into the system performance menu and change things from quality -> performance, apply, then performance -> quality or auto or whatever and apply. After that it is fine for a long time. I don't know what triggers it, but I suspect that there is something in Vista that is set wrong. Anyway, not sure if that is your issue, but that worked for me. EDIT: In your case it might be when the virtual video memory kicks in - which might be what happens for me as well, though when it happens are not really video intensive. I'd try to turn that off if you can and see if it helps (the video memory sharing).
I don't think hijackthis is showing processes from all users (you'd have to click the option to do so in task manager), but your startup registry doesn't look like it has anything bad besides some unnecessary stuff loading up on your login.
What unnecessary things might they be? Sidebar is closed/off as far as I know... and thats about it =/
Maybe it's a WoW Add-on? I've found some that will cut my FPS in half, like Questhelper. If you haven't already, try running it without any add-ons.
Just goto System requirementslab and post ur results. your CPU is a bit sub par, and so is the graphics card
www.ovguide.com is a good resource for streaming videos. pay attention to ratings and comments to make sure there is no spyware.
you can always do the WM trick 1. Open windows media player, play a song on repeat 2. just turn the volume down 3. open you game and enjoy more fps
