Hey everyone, I wanted to post about what I have been up to lately, and for anyone who cares why I haven't been on TS or the forums much recently. Fact is, I have been computer-less for about a week now. I sold my X58 system last Tuesday and put the money I got for the CPU, ram, mobo, case, and heatsink towards my new rig, which will be a Z77 system. Some of you might wonder why I sold my X58 system because it's still an awesome platform and honestly I was able to run all the games I was playing on High at at least 60fps. Well, the platform isn't getting more profitable, and I have been getting the itch to build a new rig again. I'm also a minimalist so I didn't want to have multiple systems or computers laying around. Anyway, I got a good deal on my old rig and was able to get cash for it easy! I kept my graphics card and PSU from it so I already had 2 main relatively new components and with the cash I got from selling my old rig this Z77 rig also cost me $520 for the rest of the parts. I'm still waiting on the other parts to arrive and I will posts pics once I get up and running again. Here's the parts list: CPU: i7-3570k (saved lots of $$ from buying this at local Microcenter, and I don't need the extra stuff or wanted to pay the premium for the 3770k) MOBO: Asus Maximum V GENE Z77 M-atx (I've constantly been downsizing my computers but always getting my power out of them with each new build. If I want to go SLI in the future I can but I don't need more than 2 graphics cards, nor xan I afford it. This will be my first Marx board). Heatsink: Corsair H100 Ram: Mushkin 16GB 1600 DDR3 PSU: Corsair HX850 Graphics: eVGA GTX 570 Case: Fractal Arc Mini (I was going to get a smaller case but I don't think I'm ready to go super small yet, maybe next build. I've come to the conclusion that big cases, like full towers -unless water cooling, are pretty annoying to have around taking up all that space.) I'll post pics later. Yay.
Yeah, for pure gaming 3570k is the best. OC it to 4.5-6 as a 24/7 stable and you're good to go =] Recently build a z77 machine myself and went with 3570k@4.6ghz 24/7. But i bought asus sabertooth z77 mobo and love it.
I know Ivy hits the dreaded super hot phases after or around 4.5 so I'm going to get that stable then see how much higher I can get after that in 100mhz spurts.
z77 chipset gets crazy hot after 4.6ish =\ thats why i OCed my only to 4.6. to hit 5ghz id need nitrogen cooling to keep it stable =]
bunch of pansies Sog, if you are going to be doing memory overclocking this is a good general reference guide to what everything is: http://www.datafilehost.com/download-1636169b.html And I am told this is a good beta bios that works well (0904): http://www.mediafire.com/?awg34k3871duv26
Will be my first time using Mushkin but I have read great things about them. I also will need to learn this chipset's BIOS as well as I am use to the more intricate X58 system for the past 3 years. Thanks Enigma. Still waiting on parts to be delivered. Ugh.
Man sogetsu, i disappear for three months and you're still planning this thing lol! Glad to see its coming together. And enigma, we still game for the tech chat mushkin memory overclock challenge?
Yes, I have been planning this for a while now as I'm frugal but was able to sell my system so I hopped on it.
Yup. Only thing that would be better is a newer graphics card but the 570 is still amazing, even with the low vram. Parts should deliver sometime tomorrow, I hope.
Looks like a great compact system. Were it not for the fact I didn't want to go mATX I would have gone with the Asus mVg. Pics ASAP
Here's some pics. I'm not 100% happy with the case, I liked my CM690II Adv. a lot more - but this case is smaller and fits my desk better. A lot of the placement of HDD cages, adapters, and thumbscrews make it very difficult to work with, but being my first m-ATX case (which IS what I wanted) it was still a killer deal. I might mod a few things later to make me content with the purchase. I'm still figuring out the overclock for this chipset, its super simplified from what I've read and I've got it to 4.5GHZ somewhat stable.. still ironing out the CPU voltage. 100% load temps in LinX was ~70C with the H100 set to "balanced". I'm going to get 4.5GHZ completely stable then just to bump it up slowly and see what I can do. Anyway, here's a few pics. Camera phone sucks sorry.
Because I have an Ivy processor and you have a Sandy processor. Among other things, smaller die = harder to dissipate heat. And lack of soldering on the chip too, just TIM. And blah blah, blah. :tehe:
oh i got it to 5 for the fuck of it then i was like oh wait it helped me with nothing but e peen which I already win in that too BTW u get dat code
Looks like you have enough room to add another 2 fans to the top of the H100 if you want more cooling performance.
Unless I mount them on top of case, no not really. The 120 exhaust fan would have to cone out. Radiator is too long.
And even if radiator wasn't too long I think push/pull setup in this case would not clear the memory. I'm OK with it so far. Kind of thinking I should have gotten the h80 and saved a little and taken the 5C temp difference.
