I posted a while back about a network infrastructure that I needed help with. Q figured out what was causing the slow connections from the clients to the server. It's still not as quick as it should be but I believe I need to check the throughput on all the devices now to make sure there's enough bandwidth. Here's a link: http://www.xoohq.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21103 Now there's another problem. The windows vista and windows 7 machines lose connection to the DNS server. All the XP machines don't have trouble, and before I wiped the DNS server the Vista and 7 Machines didn't have problems. They gain a connection to it very rarely for probably 2 minutes but then no connection to the DNS server. I can't ping the DNS server (2003), request times out... But I can ping all the other machines and the firewall. They have all the right IP, default gateway and such. I've tried updating the NIC drivers on them, and I've disabled the IPv6 in the TCIP properties and registry after doing some searches on tech forums. But no luck. This appears to be very specific to windows 7 and vista against Server 2003 R2... Please don't post any generic things like "Check that the IP, default gateway, ect are correct... or questions whether its a DNS problem or not (I've done the proper checks to make sure the problem is the machine can't reach the DNS even through it should)... or make sure the DNS server is up"... I've done the normal checks and the settings are correct... I can allow someone access via remote through a java based web browser program called logmein if they need to look at the Server.
Seems that the NIC in the server was the cause. There are 2 and when I switched to the 2nd it seemed to help quite a bit.
thats what I was going to ask.. looks like the problem might come from the servers and not the clients.. you probably already know this but you can also use the "tracert" (trace-route) command in Windows Command Prompt to see where the ping stops in your network.
