No, the Mac is not my home computer--it's my work one. Basically, I'm still on Eudora because I have to process/file/delete/save ballpark 2k messages per day. I have active folders going into 30k messages. My entire active e-mail holdings are 20 GB. (No, I can't just throw that stuff in an archive--it needs to be readily accessible/searchable/forwardable on a multiple-times-per-day basis.) Both Apple Mail and Microsoft Entourage choke and die on that kind of volume. But Eudora has been rock-solid for years...until now. The problem is that Eudora hasn't been updated since 2006, and like all old programs it's reached the end of its recognition by my current OS. Eudora is totally kung-fu fighting with my new computer which is running Mac OS X (10.6.4). unch: The result is constant e-mail crashing and folder corruption which = impending doom for someone in a customer service department. I've heard MailForge is probably the clearest successor to Eudora. There's also Eudora 8, which is built on the Mozilla Thunderbird platform, but is really just a re-skinned Thunderbird. Does anyone here have experience with either of those or have another program they can suggest?
Shoji, I've been using Thunderbird (on pc) for my business since 2006. Admittedly, my usage is WAAY less than what you describe but I've found the program to be rock solid.
Ugh I totally remember Eudora....Sorry Shoji, all I use now is Outlook (exchange) so I don't have anything else to compare it to. I did a quick google and found that "Email Center Pro" seems to be decent, but seems to only handle up to 15,000 messages per month (a fraction of your estimated 60,000 messages monthly).
while i hate recommending it entourage is probably your best bet there is also Novell evolution http://evolution-osx.sourceforge.net/ but that will require that you have X11 installed
Unfortunately, Entourage crashes and burns hardcore under this e-mail load. It's a corrupted file bonanza.
