My 460 died yesterday from Arkham City... Running on an 8800GT now. Any suggestions? I prefer Nvidia.
Tigerdirect had a 550 for ~80 after a coupon code. I have been eyeing it to replace my 8800GTX http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=1284271&sku=G452-0567 coupon code was : GHY46402 not sure if it works, was in a email add dated 10/17/11
Can you hold out on that 8800 for a while? The new Nvidia cards come out probably in either January or February. If not, these are your best bets for different price ranges: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130587 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127608 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162085 The 550ti isnt really THAT much better than an 8800GTX. In fact, it is actually significantly worse in texture filtering performance than the 8800GTX is (the anisotropic filter level settings, that you should always be running 16x on) You have to get at least a GeForce 560 (not the ti model, although that one is still even better) to be better in every category over your current card. The 560 would actually be a good upgrade for you. But it isnt even worth the upgrade unless you also get a model with 2GB of vram on it too. So on sale your looking at $180 after MIR for any worthwhile upgrade.
I guess I forgot to put a budget in heh. 200ish is my tops. I've got some money but no job atm so a 500 dollar graphics card is not my thing. Plus I've never been one to buy the uber best, just seems a waste. I never saw the 500's much of an upgrade over the 4's, specially for the price. But since I'm back down to a 8800 for the time being it might be worth it with the deals coming up this weekend.
This one is $180 after MIR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162085 And is the same price (cheaper after the rebate) than any GTX4## that newegg sells with enough memory. You can always sell the Arkham City code to someone for a few dollars as well to get a bit back.
I think the greatest part about all this is that I got Arkham City from a code from someones 560 purchase and now I'll probably end up getting a 560 with an Arkham City code lol.
ok so apparently its MY FAULT but yeah im running a 560 ti and you know that and since we have the same computer parts Evga 560 TI superclocked and no i can not steal one from work
Now your making me want to buy one to have some overclocking fun. But no, must...hold out to....next gen... Why does Black Friday have to be only a day away!
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7337565 $79.99 with a 30$ mail in rebate deal good until 11/30 !!
That is a great deal on a card! But remember Trice, that card isnt a full upgrade from what you currently have.
the 550 ti is what I use. Its not the best, but Im running battlefield 3 on high everything. Havent bothered trying to fiddle with ultra, yet. havent had a frame frop yet on high settings.
BF3 is not playable with good frame rates on any graphics card that has less than 1.5GB of vram. It is this way by design, EA has specifically said that to play ultra settings it is recommended to have a card with 2GB of memory with 1.5GB being the absolutely minimum.
I will gladly accept your extra Arkham City code, Sokar. Edit: Oh, and Enigma, while youmay be right about the Ultra settings, I run everything beautifully on High- The setting just below ultra- which I would leave on, anyway. In my long experience playing games, choosing the bleeding edge graphics selection for mulitplay is just asking to be fragged. Maybe thats because I refuse to spend 500 bucks on a video card.... admittedly.
Yah, I'm waiting as well... not just for a sale but $ hard to justify buying a graphics card when your the bread winner and have 3 kids with x-mas fast approaching..
