I've been debating over the past couple days whether or not to share a movie script I wrote with you guys. A few random comments on TeamSpeak last night helped me to decide in favor of doing so. I wrote this back in 2007, after mulling over the story off and on for many years prior. I waited until I felt "the world was ready" for the story and for the timing to be right, although I should have written it earlier to allow plenty of time to try and market the script and get it developed. To make matters worse, a handful of days after I wrote THE END the Writers Guild of America (WGA) launched the 2007-2008 "Writers Strike" that temporarily crippled the industry and made it 100x harder (than it already was/is) for new writers to break into the biz. The ripple effects of the strike are still being felt. I tried in vain to get some traction but abandoned the effort in late 2008. I have many other movie ideas and stories in mind to tell, but haven't had the free time/inclination/inspiration to write for awhile now. I thought about turning some of my stories into books, but I prefer the visual (i.e. screen-oriented) style over the descriptive (i.e. book-oriented) style of writing. I also understand that most of the publishing industry is ran by the same conglomerates that control much of the movie industry and many of the same access difficulties apply. Overall the story is a comedy and it was written for a variety of reasons. While on the surface it may seem unseemly, starting with the title, understand that it is not intended to be genuinely offensive. Many aspects of the story/script/intended movie were designed for shock value/marketing purposes and the choice of title was one such device, employed in the hopes of inviting sensationalism and outrage from individuals that might object to the movie based solely upon the name without any understanding of the underlying story; because there's no such thing as bad publicity. While I'll admit that there are some offensive themes to the story--particularly when viewed from certain perspectives--my personal philosophy is that nothing is sacred when it comes to comedy and I think the story arc is overwhelmingly positive. Plus, it's intended to be edgy. A few additional, important notes: - I am the author and sole copyright holder of the work - I am making the work available to you and only you, as a member of Xen of Onslaught, for your entertainment: Don't share it! - I provide a version that references real, living individuals by name and includes sample content specific to them; the copyrighted version is generic - If you develop any professional interest in the script the copyrighted version must be referenced in any official correspondence - The script is a largely functional skeleton upon which comedians may ply their trade; as always, nothing's final until the camera rolls and everything is subject to change - Some generic or unnatural dialogue is there for my convenience and if you notice it it's probably something that was slated for change - The story imagined new brands and products for cross-promotional and merchandising purposes - The included content does not necessarily reflect my own personal views: This is just a story - It takes about as long to read (at least at a steady clip) as it would to watch: 2 hours, 10 minutes - If you can't read it all in one sitting, keep in mind that there's a natural break roughly every 15th page. Post it in the member forum if you want all of Xen to have the option of viewing? with a link at the end of this post?
Thought about it, but was concerned it might be moved here without regard for why it was posted there. I'll try that, though, and maybe put a blurb in there as to why it shouldn't be moved.
