looking for some good artists that I may not have heard of. I enjoy listening to Ill Nino (thanks cox), In Flames, Dragonforce, etc. Looking for preferably techno (any) or rock (old sounding like dragonforce, standard like powerman 5000, and metal like In Flames) If anyone knows any good artists let me know. PS. I hate tool, dont mention them.

Sorry to correct you, but there is only ONE kind of Techno. Techno is a subgenre of the EDM (electronic dance music).

Some good artists...DJ Tiesto, Armin Van Buren, Infected Mushroom, and Delirium.
I would give you more, but I'm about to leave for class.

Tiësto and Van Buuren (who happen to be dutch :D ) are more progressive/uplifting trance. Infected Mushroom sounds like a GOA style and Delerium is more ambient/Enigmaesque. Then there's techno and tekno, IDM, EBM, industrial, (power)noise, hardcore/gabber, darkcore, italo, Detroit techno, eurohouse, dark electro, disco, rave, club, (speed)garage, drum&bass and well, all kinds of electronic music.

    Take a look here: http://www.livesets.com/

I'm not really into techno and trance but here are some names you might like: Yoji Biomehanika, Nosferatu, Endymion, Darkraver, Chris Liebing, Varela, Miss Djax, Monica Kruse, Promo, DJ Rush, DJ Isis, Erick E, Marco V.
Other electronic music: The Knife, the Hed Kandi albums, Gabriël & Dresden, Ladytron, Royksopp, Felix da Housecat, Art of Trance, Miss Kittin & The Hacker.

More noise/EBM/industrial/gothic: VNV Nation, Apoptygma Berzerk, Combichrist, Hocico, Velvet Acid Christ, Covenant, Suicide Commando, Siderartica, Kirlian Camera, Regenerator, Seabound, Das Ich, Technoir, and everything coming from the labels: Ant Zen, Hands, Cold Meat Industry

    You mean livesets? ;)

I'm trying to think of some things people haven't mentioned yet...

Celldweller is a perennial favorite. Check out some Pigface & Revolting Cocks, too, for fun. If you like the industrial, Hate Dept & Nocturne and Godhead. Umm... Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly...

Dunno if anyone mentioned Aphrodite yet for techno-y. Lords of Acid (lol), Sixtoo... If you like a mellow side of electronic, check out Broken Spindles or Massive Attack (warning: also great on a sexings playlist).

    mmm, lords of acid...

Here are some bands I like that seem to (loosely?) fit into the requested genres:

    KMFDM
    children of bodom
    mindless self indulgence
    pantera

    "techno":
    ministry of sound
    crystal method
    orbital
    future sound of london
    paul oakenfold
    lost tribe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvBvdDNoM_w&NR=1)
    dubtribe sound system
    aphex twin
    the orb
    sasha
    mouse on mars
    lo fidelity allstars

And if you're looking for something truly bizarre/uniquely awesome, try buffalo daughter.

Deep Forest and The Prodigy are all I listen to now, It's like boltbeam... near-complete coverage.
If I want techno I usually just play Electroplankton and bust out catchy tunes all day long.

Dragonforce? Yeah, herman li is cool.

LOL yeah most trance DJ's are from Europe. Infected mushroom is kinda psy trance, but their last album had a lot more rock influence. If you want something to get you pumped...definitely check out some gabber. Its dark and has heavy pounding bass.

Black Sabbath... Paranoid is one of my favorite albums ever. Their first four albums are great... their later stuff is hit or miss.

For techno, one of the greatest (imo) djs, Tiesto, has his own weekly podcast. I'd recommend looking here, because he plays a nice mix of his own stuff and from other artists, popular and emerging.

    Tiesto:
    http://538.tiestoworld.nl/
    http://www.radio538.nl/clublife/podcast.xml

EDIT: Episodes 4, 8, 13, and 17 are live recordings.

Its an online radio that plays all different genres of EDM. There's a different station for each genre.

As far as metal goes, Iron Maiden and Disturbed pwn all. Metallica is awesome too, and MANOWAR is cheesy but still kicks ass. There are lots of other great metal bands but this should be enough to start you off.
