I am looking for a good pair of mic/headset combo as the one I have is currently broken. I would like to have full ear cover, I think they call it Circumaural? Anyways, I would like to have a full over the ear type, but I am having a hard time finding a good pair on newegg etc... I was given the suggestion of the Cyber Snipa 5.1 headphones but not sure about those.. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.
Yes. And I agree, the other types e.g. supra-aural didn't really do it for me. One of the better ways to find decent stuff on Newegg for me seems to be to filter it down to what you want, then sort by rating, e.g.: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2000290707%201607339370 Then you just look at whatever you can afford. Pretty much anything near the top of the list will be decent; some in particular: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826106070 Good price, seems fairly well-made, most people are happy with it, and Plantronics is a pretty reputable manufacturer overall (I know them better from their Altec Lansing brand, but same deal there). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826249016 I've heard some good things about steelseries equipment lately, and this is their highest-rated headset there. A little on the pricey side, but hey. Surround sound. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826106164 Best-rated on the site, apparently, but it's also very, very expensive. Unfortunately I haven't used *all* that many headsets (including any of the above) myself, so I can't speak from experience. My current headset, as I mentioned in the other thread, is a Sennheiser PC350, but it costs a hell of a lot of money (probably US$200?). And you'll probably get almost-as-good results with any of the above. In my case I wanted something decent for music as well, so I didn't mind paying a lot for something that should last me at least five years. P.S. YMMV, but I'm told Razer headsets are pretty overpriced for what you get for them. Those guys are largely selling on brand recognition now, kind of like Alienware and Creative in the mid-90s. P.P.S. Regarding the last link I gave there (Sennheiser PC166), the 3.5mm version (PC161) is basically exactly the same and $70 cheaper, so if you're interested in that and can get away without the USB, you could try that. Maybe there's a 3.5mm->USB converter out there somewhere, on the other hand... got to be cheaper than paying $70 for a different plug.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826106070 Went with those. Decent price, liked the reviews, we will see. I had a nice big comfy over the ear set, but for some reason the cord just started wrapping around itself one day, and now it's all cut up on the wires. It still works, but the cable annoyed the shit out of me, no matter how many times I would untangle it, it would just tangle back up. So I bought this new pair. Anyways, long story short, went with the Plantronics.
I used to use the older Plantronics audio90s http://www.plantronics.com/north_america/en_US/productSearch/prod440020 and before that, the blue versions of them. Good sound (used them for listening for footsteps in counter-strike since early counter-strike) Ya can't go wrong with Plantronics as far as I am concerned. I am using the Logitech Extreme Gaming Headset (the band goes behind the head instead of over) as I find they are not full ear coverage and I find they are less like wearing ear muffs ) but I prefer the sound of my audio90s Now...Sirius are you saying Plantronics and Altec Lansing are the same company? I have been a huge fan of Altec Lansing computer speakers for ever
i'm looking for a new set too.. I been using a $15 logitech headset from walmart for that past 6-7 years =P only looking now cause I think there is a loose wire in the volume control which makes the sound cut out. =/ otherwise they have been awesome have you guys heard anything about the wireless headsets? the ones kind of like cell phone hands free sets? are those worth any salt for gaming?
I've got the wireless, USB version of those. Cost me $100. They're pretty good. Battery lasts me about 5 hours before needing a recharge.
I used to game all wirelessly, till one night in a middle of a raid, everything died... at the same time... yeah... we wiped.. Swore off wireless. lol
Yeah, Altec Lansing is a division of Plantronics. http://www.plantronics.com/europe_union/en_GB/company/brands.jhtml
The wife just demolished my 80$ headset today with the Dyson vacuum cleaner. Apparently the Dyson sucked in the jack and vacuumed up the cord and pretty much destroyed it. Think I am going to try out the one linked early in the post though.
i got the gamecom pro 1 Ironjaw, and I like it.. nice and comfy, drowns outside noise out if music is going, and mic is really good too..
http://www.astrogaming.com/products/detail/3/A40-Audio-System/ The best headset I have ever owned, hands down worth the money.
