I have all of the proper albums from Linkin Park and have been listening to them since they first appeared on MTV on the UK screens over 10 years ago and have been watching the way they have transformed themselves, they are still firmly within the nu-metal genre.

The official released song from the album is The Catalyst (Track 14 on the album).

Compared to some of their earlier work it is solidly produced but nothing ground breaking, and at times it feels that it is missing energy, as though the band members are thinking more about their side projects than what got them to the top of their genre.

Good for a listen, but it feels "All filler, no killer", hopefully you will judge the album for yourself, but I would say its probably only their 3rd or 4th best album, though I dont think they would ever do anything to top Hybrid Theory.

Uh... that song is bizarre, and not much else... it barely seems like a song, more an experimental jam of sorts.

What exactly the point was I have no idea...

P.S. Yeah, and I found out that's because it wasn't the actual song. Explains a lot - the real one is much more interesting.

    But worst sounds so negative.

Still trying to work out if minutes to midnight was better or worse.

At times it feels as if their peak was their first album

Yeah, I don't think they're going back to emo-screamo CDs that sound the same from beginning to end anymore. Seems the lead vocalist's voice isn't up to it live, and what sounded okay ten years ago sounds pretty damn trite now.

Problem is they're not really any good at anything else.

I liked minutes to midnight, personally. This album is absolutely terrible. They are just trying to sound bizarre now, and its working. I heard it came out, was a little psyched, then became saddened. You can't even tell that its Linkin Park a lot of the time, tbh. It sounds far too... manufactured. The Catalyst is actually one of the few songs on the album I like somewhat.

Also, that's the short version of the song in the initial post. The song I have is 5:39

Yeah, its only on listen back I realised i posted a "trailer" song, but because the album is that meh I cba to update it.

Thing is their first album had energy, the later stuff just feels like it has marketing.

I personally think there first few albums were amazing, but they where the ones made for marketing, they got there big bucks from Hybrid and Meteora, now they are doing music they want. At least thats how i view there rabid change of sound.

I disagree, the early stuff was their best, now it feels like they are just producing albums to fulfill a big label contract of XXX albums.

I also have all their albums and think that HT and Meteroa were by far the best. MTM was ok, some of the songs on there were pretty good, others i didnt like so much. This new album is more of a concept/experimental album for them and is quite different to anything else. I would agree with Frosty that this album isnt great compared to their other stuff and definitely didn't live up to the hype. Its still a god listen from beginning to end though.

There was hype? ... well, guess I'm in the wrong circles these days.

I found it interesting - though to be honest, underdeveloped - but most of it only makes sense to listen to as an album, not as individual songs.

i only liek some songs from the album.

I'm not the type to look for the greater message by listening to the whole album, just like to hear sogns with good beats and good word flow.

I liked Hybrid and Meteora. Even a bit of Reanimation and M2M. But after Meteora they have been going down hill.

    +1

Hybrid and Meteora were great albums, Reanimation was pretty good too. M2M onwards hasnt been great tbh although some of the songs are ok.
