http://www.xoohq.com/threads/31421.leap-motion-a-far-superior-version-of-kinect-for-PC.&highlight=leap+motion I'm already preordered and got my email saying it will be shipped asap only going to be 69.99 since I preordered
You can be sure I will. I'm really hoping the developers that got their hands on this thing last year looked at it as a new way to interact with the PC rather than a toy to play silly games with and run physics demos :/ 2 months until we find out
is anyone else concerned with some of the leaked developer reviews of this thing? Ive seen a few that state this device doesnt exactly work as well as we would hope. I've got mine preordered ever since doctorie and i were 'gasming over this a year ago and I'm pretty pumped.. but I must admit Im slightly concerned...
hadn't seen any reviews until just now.... I can't say that I am all that surprised really. It is a phenomenal idea and if it worked as well as the videos they posted it would be ++++ but the reality is that most products don't live up to the hype or what developers would have us believe. It is also the first device of its kind for the PC as far as I know and there is lots of room to grow. I hope that with all the support being thrown behind it from the likes of ASUS and bestbuy we can see this technology grow into what we have expected it to be. Kickstart/donations are great for getting a product out the door but the financial support to continue the growth of a product is going to come from larger companies backing them. Even if this thing can only track 4/5 fingers that is still better than any other device available to the every day consumer at the 70-80$ price point. So I wouldn't say that I am really that concerned. I knew what I was getting into buying a product that is in its first iteration. Just as I did when I purchased my Blackberry Playbook a couple years ago. I wouldn't take back my preorder from last year even after reading a few developer thoughts. I have a feeling that a large portion of the applications that have been written for this thing are going to be games and useless tech demos, what I don't give shit about is any of those. However, what I do care about, is how it will allow me to interact with my PC on a day to day basis. Basically taking over some of the mouse functionality I have come to rely on and start to get away from in favour of a more touchscreen like interaction, something akin to how the playbook is interacted with. I know a lot of people complain about windows 8 but I happen to enjoy the metro interface and I think this thing would go a long way to improving some peoples experience with it (I am still on windows 7. The laptop my gf has has a windows 8 OS on it and she loves the metro interface and I have enjoyed my time on it).
I share your thoughts on this. And for what I have planned, this thing should be awesome. I have a tv in the kitchen (its actually a 27" dell pc monitor.. details) that I use for XBMC and internet viewing while cooking/cleaning/put the girlfriend to work kind of stuff. She loves it, but the keyboard on the microwave kind of thing is quite cumbersome. We are thinking this thing mounted under the cabinet (right above the monitor over the sink) and it ought to work real good for surfing the collection with XBMC's new touch screen support.. No soap on the keyboard!
