    Heyo folks,

Got to renew my printer as it came from Europe (220v) and it's a inkjet craparse thing.

I'm thinking of going laser, probably monochrome laser (if i got to print color i'll do it at work he he he) as color laser costs way too much in terms of toners.

I got no idea about all that stuff, i know, at work, we only used HP everywhere i went, on amazon.ca and they got nice dealz on Brother (yo bro).

I only need few things from it :
    - Need to be able to copy / scan too
    - Network based (so i can put it anywhere in the place, not just glued to a PC)
    - Windows 8.1 compatible (yeah :()
    - Doesn't cost an arm !

I am sinking zis one :

That would probably be a good choice. I have only used color laser printers before, not monochrome ones. They are ok, but you are right toner costs way too much money. Even more than ink does for a lot of printers even though it lasts longer. I have owned quite a lot of Brother brand printers, and an Epson or two and an HP. I liked HP the least in consumer space because they are too finicky. Brothers work great for the first couple years, but once the major service parts need replacement it is better to just buy a whole new printer. In laser printers you have the toner that needs replacing, the drum units (where toner mounts into) tend to need replacing every year or two, belt units need replacing every 50,000 pages or so, and a couple other small random things. Each of those costs $50-100 so if once goes bad it is easier to just buy a new printer because you know the other stuff will go bad soon too. At work we have a Brother MFC-9440CN laser printer, it cost something like $200 or $250. In the 4-5 years we have owned it now I believe we have spent about $750 on the service repairs of various parts.

Honestly, the Brother MFC-J6910DW Inkjet printer has been my favorite so far. The price per print is pretty low because ink is really cheap and lasts a decent bit, color accuracy is fairly good, and we havent had any maintenance on it yet in the past year and a half. Also the scanner is the best I have ever used (2400 x 2400 dots per inch resolution)

Yeah Inkjet works too but i almost don't print anything and it seems that the ink runs dry in my printer (HP) even tho i don't use it, as laser uses powder it shouldn't be a problem. Picture quality is much better with an inkjet tho if color is needed.

If you go a really long time between prints you might need to take the toner out and shake it a bit every once in a while to break it back up and get a good print. No printer ink or toner likes to sit for really long periods of time once open.
