Can I use my Laptop's XP install cd, and use it on my desktop to install a legit copy of XP?

If you can get it to run, you'd probably still need a key.

Couldn't I just use the key from my laptop?

If it's already be used, most likely not. Could try it though.

  5. What kind of CD is it? If its one of those OEM cd's that came with a laptop it probably has some kind of detection in it to make sure its only used with the system it was supposed to be used on.

Meh, it came with my dell, it is fine now, I fixed the issue my desktop was having, so no reformatting for me.
