Might be hard to see, but that is an 8 core, 16 thread processor on the LGA2011 socket. It is running at 3.4GHz speed.
This benchmark stuff shown above is not 100% confirmed, but most people are thinking it is real. Either way, good to see progress is going well on these new processors due out in March or April of 2012

Sandy Bridge-E was not impressive to me but i'm saving my money for Ivy Bridge.

Intel is developing a much more significant lead... I'm starting to worry about AMD, lol.

A lot of people are worried. I dont think AMD will ever go out out business though, at least until there are no more x86 and x86_64 personal computers (normal Windows as well as Mac OSX) and everything moves to mobile and ARM instructions (current tablets, phones, future Windows computers, etc) or quantum computers. Intel needs AMD around otherwise they get fined millions a year due to monopoly stuff. On top of that, AMD owns the instruction sets that Windows uses for 64-bit stuff. Intel owns the x86 instructions (32-bit), but they license the x64 instructions from AMD. If AMD were to go out of business then Im sure Intel could just pick them up or whatever, but before that happened AMD would probably do something crazy like sell the instruction sets to some random company (or maybe even Intel) for like a billion Dollars. AMD also got a lot of money recently in a court settlement with Intel, and had a short term influx of cash from selling off their fabrication facilities during the Global Foundries spinoff. So while AMD is falling farther behind currently, they are innovating more and more in the mobile areas where computing is heading in the mainstream. So they will be good in that area in the future and also have always been a big player in the server market. So AMD will be ok I think, we just might not see them in desktop gaming machines down the road.

Dont get me wrong, AMD still has some good stuff and is great in the budget gaming area because they have such great performance for the price. But Intel just has many more billions they constantly throw into R&D and AMD cannot possibly keep up with them, no company on the whole planet can. Eventually Intel will be just too far ahead in this area.

Also, we already know that in the future AMD is still around. Havent you all watched futurama?

I think AMD will do better then intel for mobile products because of their new APU chips that conserve battery power for mobile devices. Their desktop chips however have been lagging behind in performance against the intel chips ever since intel first released the i7 chips. It doesnt help matters for AMD that most PC users would rather buy an Intel cpu then an AMD cpu because of brand loyalty and brand recognition. There is a stigma that Intel products are the best and anything else is junk, ask any computer newbie which chip is better :p

Thats how I am too, and I probably will get one just cause. But lets be honest, what could possibly be limiting you right now with an 8thread Intel or 8 core AMD? Nothing. So why would we ever need to run an Intel 16 thread processor? It has no purpose except to increase our epeen.
